VM-BIOS Serial Number

Postby MrGerrie » Sun Aug 06, 2017 10:27 pm

Hello2all,

i am looking for a tool to edit the serial number from the VM-BIOS because a software (AutoStore7) on the VM need to read the Hardware Serial Number from the BIOS for a correct licensing.
At the moment there is no key signed in. There is only a UUID but its not work for the Software.
I can read the BIOS-Information with the tool rweverything but i can't edit the String or place the correct informations in it (Appendix).

Is someone be able for helping a blind man out of the darkness? I have read here in this forum about the tool virsh. Do this tool maybe work fixing my problem?

I hope it is a simple command line String...

Thanks for all helpfull informations!

Hi dolbyman,
first i have to install or find virsh. Also i ave to find out the config-files and the kind of the Virtualisation-Server working on the QNAP.
But i am not a Linux-Specialist. I don't no how to do this on the QNAP or i don't know how to start virsh.
I can see the file structure but i am realy a greenhorn in linux, not in IT. My last time beeing with Linux was in 1995-97.
Maybe you can help me, witch way i have to go to find virsh and the config of my VM ... :-)

Even now i have read in an other post the following lines:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/KVM/opt/lib:/KVM/opt/lib64/
export PATH=$PATH:/KVM/opt/bin/:/KVM/opt/sbin/

Hi this does not work on 4.3.3.0238
I can't use virsh even after those two commands. Andy help?

On my QNAP is this firmware-version. The Tutorial that you have posted me have these both lines in it. :-(

At least on my QNAP, replace KVM with QVS in the commands above.

Also if you are running Entware, you will need to update your path in /opt/etc/profile.

Once you have virsh online, then stop all VM's but the one you want to edit.

Get the domain ID from VM to edit

Code: Select all

virsh list

Edit VM configuration xml

Code: Select all

virsh edit <insert domain id from 1st step>

Then you can add the sections you need from the SMBIOS information following the format layed out here:
https://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementsSysinfo

Hi,
i got a reply from the QNAP-Support but they need more informations. They have no workarround for it. Also my linux-friend could not help me because he is ill for a long time and have to stay in hospital. The world is against me. :-(
I have to fix the problem till 01.09.2017. If it is not working i have a big problem! This system is for a lawyer!

I can not understand, that there is no easy way for me to place in a own serial number in this VM-BIOS. Unbelievable!!
