Android x86 on virtualization station

Post by paullovdahl »

Hello!

I have TS451+-8G and I am wondering if its possible to download Android-x86 7.1, ISO file (on www.android-x86.org) and import it on Virtualization station and run it? Or has it to be Android-x86 4.4-RC1 which is listed in the support OS list?

Thanks for reply!

Hey - did you get it installed? I am looking for a similar config and wanted to see what you explored and its success?

I've tried to install two versions of Android-x86:

1. CM-x86-14.1-rc1 http://www.android-x86.org/releases/rel ... 6-14-1-rc1
2. Android-x86 7.1-rc2 (Nougat-x86) http://www.android-x86.org/releases/releasenote-7-1-rc2

#1 installed but would not start. It hangs at the green curve startup screen and never boots.

#2 installs successfully and boots. However the mouse pointer doesn't work in the Remote Console (VNC) so you can't do anything with it.

Update: After playing with this a bit more the mouse is broken but can work if you single click and hold, then you can move the pointer around. Unfortunately, Virtualization Station doesn't emulate a PS/2 mouse and there's no setting to select the pointer type, like there is in the VirtualBox stand-alone application. Of less concern but still not great is the native resolution of VGA seems to be 640x480, and I can't find any configuration in Android or on the VM to change that to a higher res. So all in all, useless.

In other words, VM station is not compatible with Androidx86.

just double checked what you already confirmed.

i tested the nougat. got the mouse to work kinda, but barely.

definitely could be improved upon put it that way. you may need to create helpdesk ticket to suggest they improve upon this, to get mouse working via VNC.

Even if the mouse worked I don’t see much practical use of an android VM that has a 640x480 resolution. That would need to be fixed too for this to be a viable VM.

Have you tried using HDMI output and a physical keyboard\mouse connected to QNAPs USB port?

I just ran Android-x86 8.1-rc1 (Oreo-x86) live CD [rc2 should be available but the mirrors do not yet contain it]. At least there the keyboard (US mode, no localized chars) and mouse work fine. Anyhow I have no practical use case for this VM right now.

Nice. I tried the same ISO with on-disk install instead of live CD, but it didn't worked ok.
Have you tried any game with your VM? I'm wondering if HW acceleration is available for GPU. I'm using a 251+ here.

Cheers

Hey guys, any new feed about Android and Virtualization Station?
I wonder if is there any light version of Android would work as vm on qnap nas server only just for use Google Assistant to work on place with my iot devices.
As a normal android device, you know.
I bought small mic and want to use it thru mic port in my Ts 263Be, to say "Hello Google" directly to him.

Any ideas how to fix it?

hi Mario, welcome.
No progress here, tbh didn't try any further. By a nest mini for 30€ and you'll have your use-case operational!
