For a "K" model which hase >90W TDP you have to replace the stock passive cooler for example to a "Noctua NH-L9x65" and you have to modify the case itself as well (cutting a 90mm blowhole at the place of the cooler, so it can use this airflow as well). The origin blower remains as additional (you will need this at high load).

I finally modified mine using this components instead of the watercooling solution I had before ;)

Any photos of your cooler mods?

The Watercooling-Mod is already linked in the signature - if you want me to I'll take some shady photos of the naked 1282 and the blowhole today ;)
I replaced the watercooler because the pump was going to fail (more and more rattling and loud).
QNAP TVS-1282-i7-7700T-128G "S" (for "Silent")
2X 2TB Samsung 860 PRO RAID1 for QTS
2x 4TB Ironwolf PRO SSD RAID1 for Virtualization
4x 22TB Ironwolf PRO for 2x RAID1 storage groups

Custom build: Noctua NH-L9x65 aircooler, BIOS-Mod for Series 9 and 128GB RAM, a bunch of 80/92mm Noctua fans and Corsair SF750 PSU using a modified connector
Former used a Corsiar H5 SF for the TVS-1282 Watercooling Mod

(also had a 7700K (working fine) and will now try the Series 9-Mod (i9-9900T) for more cores)

yeah, snap some pics of the blowhole. I also had the Corsair water cooler on my tvs-682 but I knew that thing will get some wear and tear and would need replacement. It's an older cooler and discontinued (not a popular model) so would be a pain to get.

Not intending to resurrect a thread that hasn't been updated in nearly a year, but as I found this thread when I attempted to upgrade my TVS-1282T from a Skylake i5 6500 to an i7 7700.
I decided against the K-version, as this would also mean I had to upgrade the internal cooling solution and modify the chassis to create an extra exhaust port, which I didn't want to do. The 6500 and 7700 (and 6700) have identical TDP's of 65W, so cooling solution shouldn't be a problem.

I initially wanted to acquire a 6700, (to stay within the same CPU family) but couldn't find any for a decent price. Instead, I bumped upon a used HP Prodesk 600G3 which contained a 7700 for a decent price.
Figured I could swap the CPU's and then sell it off again for a slightly lower price, I would end up paying about 50$ for the 7700 in the end.

So I removed and cleaned both CPU's, installed the 7700 in the 1282T, applied fresh thermal paste and fired it up.
No joy... Stuck at the memory check.
I then started looking online for the cause of this, and quickly learned here that I would probably have to perform a BIOS upgrade to version for the the QZ-model of the 1282T (that comes with a 7th gen CPU) instead of the QX-version (which comes with the 6th gen CPU).

I reinstalled the 6500 and flashed QZ03AT12 (following the process explained on https://www.meintechblog.de/2020/11/pim ... kaby-lake/).
The 1282T rebooted and I was able to get back into BIOS, so it seems the QZ bios is backwards compatible with the 6th Gen CPU's.

Swapped the 6500 for the 7700 and started the 1282T.
It did an automatic reboot during 'starting system' once, but after that it booted as expected.

So from my experience, it's perfectly safe to upgrade from QX80ED33 to QZ03AT12, but YMMV.

I am having issues with this Skylake to Kabylake upgrade. After I write the QZ03AR11 bios, then after rebooting I am never able to get back into the BIOS.

The bios beep is going off rapidly, changing the processor and memory, does not resolve the rapid beeping and no BIOS screen.

I used Flashrom on a RPI to write back my original bios file QX80AT21, and the TVS-1282T boots normally.

I also tried QZ03AT12 bios and still no BIOS access

Resolved my issue with upgrading from Skylake to Kabylake processor
I used bios QZ03AT12 for my TVS-1282t
The problem was the motherboard CPU connector. I cleaned connector and the CPU with alcohol and a tooth brush.
I was able to get a i7-7700 Processor, two M2 NVMe drives and 64GB of DDR5 memory

In my case, I admit that I tried a very special solution: a HDMI sound splitter (J-Tech Digital 4K 60HZ HDMI Audio Extractor Converter), because my screen doesn't have sound output. @antik: could you explain more precisely how you are outputting sound?
Hi~~
Please switch device to MSI-mode by the MSI utility v2
https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/windo ... ts.378044/
http://www.mediafire.com/file/2kkkvko7e ... til_v2.zip

I tried it with Win10, and it works.
Thankyou, Still a problem and this still works to fix it. :)
