"what nas model with what processor?" - It's in my signature (TVS-1282T3, GPGPU GTX 1050ti etc.)
"how many cores have you passed to the vm? (cpu emulation or pass through?)" - In my NAS is CPU Intel i5 and all cores is set to VM (+ 16MB RAM) + in situation of playing Diablo 3 is only one this VM turn on.
"was the YouTube video also done on vm with the same cpu and ram (etc)?" - What do you mean with YouTube? I didn't mention nothing about YT...

If you have some experiences with playing Diablo 3 on the QNAP NAS, can you please write your knowledge? What Is your situation?

The guide for the upgrade is https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qZ_ ... tPB-Y/edit
You just need to use the correct fw (QX instead of QZ).

Probably for your model you need the QX80ARxx FW .

I have draft this table by checking the info that I have gathered here and there:

6th gen CPU:
QX77AR TVS-682 Confirmed on my unit
QX78AR TVS-882 Guessed
QX80AR TVS-1282 Guessed
QX77AT TVS-682T Guessed
QX78AT TVS-882T Guessed
QX80AT TVS-1282T/T3 Guessed

7th Gen CPU
QZ01AR10 TVS-682 Confirmed
QZ02AR10 TVS-882 Confirmed
QZ03AR09 TVS-1282 Confirmed
QZ01AT10 TVS-682T Confirmed
QZ02AT10 TVS-882T Confirmed
QZ03AT09 TVS-1282T/T3 Confirmed

Finally I strongly believe that the only difference between QX and QZ BIOS family is the CPU+iGPU microcode.
The Only difference within the same family is the name, n. of fan, n. of disks supported and if the thunderbolt card is present.

I've upgraded the TVS-882 BIOS from QX78AR20 to QZ02AR12 and swapped the CPU i7-6700T (Skylake) with i7-7700T (Kabylake).

Sorry, for the late reply. I took a screenshot from before and after that I can send you if you wish.
In the meantime I've sent some instructions to Jörg from "meintechblog" and he has upgraded his TVS-1282, too.
You can check his blog post with pics and detailed instructions https://www.meintechblog.de/2020/11/pim ... more-14535.
It is in German, but I'm sure you'll get the point (and proof) from there.

Let me know if you have any questions, I can help if you plan to do the upgrade.

many thanks! We are discussing this further in the thread with all of the previous info about TVS-X82(T) here: viewtopic.php?p=773358

perhaps we can continue the discussion there to keep it all in one place?

Does anybody know how to get BIOS for a TVS-682 so I can put an i7-9700 CPU ? (Coffee Lake, I think)

I found another post which gets until 7700... but today I'm planning to get that 9700 (or 8700)

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards

The guess of this list of links is based on the document from the post #59 in this thread.I don't know where the document comes from, but it looks like an official KB.
For safety it's best to confirm your BIOS model before updating the BIOS using command 'dmidecode -s bios-version'.

and other thing, QNAP has sold two models of TVS-X82 series products, one is QX* and the other is QZ*. QX* is older than QZ*,It uses SkyLake CPU(6th) ,QZ* went on sale in the second half of this year using KabyLake(7th) CPU.In my case, The TVS-682 I bought is QZ* model. Actually, I have tried to update my system with the old QX* model BIOS.It will show you 'error model' and stop upgrading.
All the above are from my personal practice, not the official, please at your own risk.

Thanks for your opinion. What do you think is the highest CPU that should work with a TVS-682 device ?

My most CPU consuming use will be a few Win10 virtualizations at the same time (3 people accessing through android tablets for using Win10 programs)

I'm also planning to upgrade the RAM to its current limit (64GB)... but I don't know if using a higher CPU (with broader limits) will be accepted by the motherboard.

If this post is still actual, using a QZ BIOS will max out the CPU on a TVS-XX82 to a i7-7700K model and 64GB of RAM.

For a "K" model which hase >90W TDP you have to replace the stock passive cooler for example to a "Noctua NH-L9x65" and you have to modify the case itself as well (cutting a 90mm blowhole at the place of the cooler, so it can use this airflow as well). The origin blower remains as additional (you will need this at high load).

I finally modified mine using this components instead of the watercooling solution I had before ;)

KR Wolf
QNAP TVS-1282-i7-7700T-128G "S" (for "Silent")
2X 2TB Samsung 860 PRO RAID1 for QTS
2x 4TB Ironwolf PRO SSD RAID1 for Virtualization
4x 22TB Ironwolf PRO for 2x RAID1 storage groups

Custom build: Noctua NH-L9x65 aircooler, BIOS-Mod for Series 9 and 128GB RAM, a bunch of 80/92mm Noctua fans and Corsair SF750 PSU using a modified connector
Former used a Corsiar H5 SF for the TVS-1282 Watercooling Mod

(also had a 7700K (working fine) and will now try the Series 9-Mod (i9-9900T) for more cores)
