Sound issues with virtual machine w/ assigned GPU

Post by paradoxgrowth »

Hello Community!

I am having sound problems with my windows 10 VM running on my NAS. It has a GPU assigned to it and is plugged into my TV via HDMI. As I am playing videos or games it might work correctly for a few mins until (or not work at start) the sound distorted and kind of slow. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the driver. I googled quite a bit and didn't find anything additional to try other than as disable the sound enhancements. This has been a problem since day one. NAS firmware and virtualization station updates have not helped. Killing and rebuilding Virtualization station hasn't helped either. The crazy thing is that I can play steam games with little to no graphical lag what so ever (Batman: Arkham Knight).

Below are the details:
Server: TS-677
QTS: 4.4.2.1320 build 20200529
Virtualization station: 3.4.4

VM OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 1909 (OS Build 18363.836)
GPU (assigned to VM): NVIDA GP107 (GeForce GTX 1050 Ti)
NVIDA driver version: 446.14

Thank you so much for all your help!

have you tested on another TV or monitor to determine if it is specific to your TV?
Also try a different HDMI cable
I would test each of these things to try and determine exactly where the fault lies
NAS: TVS-1282-i7-7700-40G / 4 x 500GB SSD 2.5" RAID 10 / 2 x 500GB M.2 SSD / 8 x 12TB WD Whites 3.5" RAID 6 / Noctua L9x65 / 3 x 80mm PWM Noctua fans / Corsair 600W PSU / Asus Turbo GTX 1060 6GB GPU
Software: Plex Media Server / Transmission / Sonarr / Radarr / Bazarr / Jackett / Tautulli / Home Assistant / Resilio Sync / Python / NetData / SortMyQPKGs
pfSense Firewall / OpenVPN Server: QOTOM Fanless Mini PC / Core i5 / 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD / 4 Gigabit NICs / AES-NI
Wireless Routers: 2 x Netgear AC1900 R7000 Nighthawk / 1 x Netgear AC3200 R8000 Nighthawk / FreshTomato Firmware

Peelos,

Thanks so much for your reply and help! That is a good suggestion, but yes I have tried a fresh new HDMI.

I wonder if it is because it is a VM? Is anyone doing something similar? Are they experiencing the same issue?

Hi,
MSI is solution :) I had same problem on all VM-s, all OSs, on windows 10 was like 2-10 min and "crash" sound.
