Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
Hi, I'm new to qnap nas. I have a vm in my nas that needs Internet connection but I don't want it to use up one IP address. Is there any function like port forwarding that allows me to do such thing.
As drawn in the image, the nas will get an IP address from my router and assign a local ip to the vm. And when I access 12.34.56.78:910, I want to access to the vm. Is there any ways to do it?

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
the vm can either use NAT or bridge mode
if NAT, fordward to the ip of NAS to the port of the vm , if bridge forward to ip and port of the vm
the NAS would still run in a private class c segment ..so the ip for the nas was chosen unfortunate (even if fictional)

via virtual switch
https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/tutorial ... on-station
best thing would be to put the VM on a dedicated NIC isolated from the rest of your network, just in case it gets compromised, the hacker would not have access to the rest of your network

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
Hi dolbeman, I can configure the ip address of the vm to a local network. However, I cannot find the place where I can configure the port forwarding function. Do I need to enable UPnP Port Forwarding page in myQNAPCloud?dolbyman wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 11:29 pm via virtual switch

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
port forwarding is done in your router
wanip:port->lanip:port
always disable upnp in your router..or you might accidentally forward your nas to wan ...lots of people lost their files via ransomware recently..so be very aware of what you are doing

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
You mean there is no option in the QNAP NAS where I can edit the ports?
If I don't own the router I cannot use port forwarding?

How is your NAT done if not by a router? ...
Can you outline your setup?

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
There is an option "Enable NAT" under the virtual switch setup and I checked the box. I thought that is how I enable NAT?
I was just hoping to find a function like the one I can choose from oracle virtual box.

I am talking bout your home network, not the NAS
If you want to reach your NAS from WAN, you need to forward ports via your router...

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
I don't quite understand, I can access the NAS by its ip(12.34.56.78)(I think it's lan). I don't want to connect the NAS to wan though. What I want to do is to use the ip and port of the nas(12.34.56.78:910) to reach the vm(192.168.1.1 in 1st post).

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
for that, you need to forward a port from your router via port forwarding to a port/ip on your nas (as said before)
still unknown how your home is setup..what is your router model?

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
It's not my home, it's my office and the router does not belong to us.
So there is no functions like the above photo from oracle virtualbox?

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
not sure where virtualbox would come into play... thought we were talking about qnap vm station ..but as I said, without access to your NAT device..there is no port forwarding

Re: Port forwarding in Virtualization Station
Yes I am talking about Virtualization Station.
Currently there is a vm running on Windows Oracle Virtualbox in my office.
Use this image as an example.
I can now use 10.232.10.185:8085(here 10.232.10.185 is the ip of the Windows pc) to access the port 8084 of the vm(10.0.2.15).
The setting is at Virtualbox, I don't need to modify the router to do this.
If QNAP does not support this, I will just let go and obtain an ip from the router, for example, 10.232.10.186, and use 10.232.10.186:8084 to access the port in the vm.
