BSOD every hour for Windows 10 VM

Post by cniclaes »

Hello,

My TVS671 NAS run QTS 5.0.0.1932 and Virtualization Station 3.6.16.

I've a VM with Windows 10 Pro x64 with 4GB RAM.

From the time I migrated from QTS 4 to QTS 5 I've a lot of trouble with this VM, meaning I get a BSOD after a few hours of run time. The message on the BSOD is always different: "CACHE_MANAGER" for ntoskrnl.sys, "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" for ntoskrnl.sys, "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" for win32kbase.sys, ...

I tried a lot of memory related settings for the VM on QTS: Disabling Memory Optimizer, Disabling Memory Sharing, Disabling Dynamic Memory Allocation, ... but nothing worked!

I migrated the disk drivers from IDE to VIRTIO in the past and thoiught that it could be the cause, but I installed back the IDE drivers and it doesn't help.

When checking the WIndows 10 Event Viewer I can't find anything telling me why the OS crash.

Any idea?

also might be a good idea to use the forum search for "virtual" or "vm" and check if there is any recent issue similar to this.

Hello,

My problem was solved by QNAP support service.

For anyone having the same kind of issue: the solution was to set the CPU parameter of the VM to "Pass-Through" instead of one of the proposed specific CPUs. No more BSODs !
