I created my first Windows 8 VM choosing SATA for HDD before I read the QNAP guide regarding VirtIO controller.

Is there likely to be a big difference in performance do you know?

I'm no virtualization expert but do oversee and ESXi 5.1 server system at work (my first exposure to VM). Do you know if the QNAP VS has USB passthrough? I currently use ICS on a PC via my iPhone connected via USB and wondered if the NAS VM could be used rather than the PC.
