Backup to S3 Speed

Hi all,
I'm experiencing really slow speeds in incremental backups to S3, it does complete but is too slow
From Googling quickly I can see I'm not the only one

Has anyone managed to get decent speeds?

Not using Server Side Encryption

I just started trying this out and it is at a virtual standstill. I'm using the "Hybrid Backup Sync" app with Amazon S3. It's working on one file and shows 65.00% progress on that same file for hours. The log says "encountered network problems while processsing" that file. But no retry, and no report. We have 16Mbps upstream and 75Mbps down.
