Err:2 and Err:3 in the logs?

Post by wkearney99 »

Anyone had McAfee log errors like this?

~/share/server/drivers/usb/fujitsu/scansnap/windows 7/temp/IXP000.TMP/MSXML/msxml6_x64.msi: not scanned (err:2)
~/share/projects/vbscript/autoitx.zip: not scanned (err:2)
~/share/server/drivers/usb/fujitsu/scansnap/installed/PFU/ScanSnap/Receipt/base.zip: not scanned (err:3)
~/share/Downloads/11E3.tmp: not scanned (err:3)

The two files are 2mb and 14k in size, well under the 25mb max set in the scan jobs.

In the case of the 'base.zip' file above, the archive has a password (thus deep scanning into it wouldn't be expected to function). But in the case of the 11E3.tmp file, it's not encrypted, just a tmp file of binary data.

The autoitx.zip reports an incomplete archive when attempting to extract with WinRAR or via the Explorer itself.

What do the err numbers mean? It'd help if they included that in the log file instead of just a number. Meanwhile, I hope this might help anyone else stumbling in here via searching for McAfee log errors.

I need help with Mcafee log file

Post by BalooBearUSA »

MACAFEE error log file is not great w/o a key.

I know that this post is ancient, but where can I find the list of err: ## code meaning for Mcafee log files?

I too have files that are small but generating err: 2.

I have error codes 2, 3, 10, 14

I do see that "Infect files" are reported "FOUND".

Also, how do you set an option to repair or remove using Mcafee as the log says;

Infected files: 4 (4 still infected, 0 repaired, 0 removed)

and now way to do anything automatically, just manually?

2021-06-19 06:44:19 [Mcafee] - Known viruses: 668682

I also would like to know what the error codes mean in the McAfee scan logs. I see quit a few of them in my logs.

If anyone has any insight on these codes, please share.

Thanks.

This is weird. So no one knows what these codes officially indicate?

My guess is that the error 2 and 3 codes are general not scanned codes due to whatever reason. Network connectivity issues for instance. I double checked all my files that were flagged with the codes 2 3 12 14 with Bitdefender on my laptop using file explorer and none of the files were infected. I advise that everyone checks all their files with error codes by using another antivirus program.

Note that in the McAfee scan job settings in "Configuration" it is possible to set max file size for scannable files and a max scannable file size for compressed files. These max file sizes should generate "error" codes for not scanning I expected. But I was not able to match an error code to these max file size settings either.

So summary: recheck all flagged files to make sure these are not infected. My 2 cents.

Seeing as how the scan is happening with the software running ON the NAS itself, it's probably not a connectivity question.

The question remains, are the error codes documented anywhere?

Hi there, I just stumbled over the documentation for it: https://www.qnap.com/en-us/how-to/faq/a ... s-refer-to

According to this, Err:2 means "Data could not be read from/written to the object" (e.g. when currently locked by other process) and Err:3 means "File is encrypted and scanner is unable to decrypt".
