Sync to Google Photos

Post by gregeeh »

Hi all,

I'm trying to find a way to sync a folder on my NAS (TS-128) to Google Photos, not Google Drive. I can do it to Google Drive using Hybrid Sync Backup but there seems no option for Google Photos.

Any ideas much appreciated.

TIA

Hey Greg. :)

I think you could make this work by syncing to your Google Photos folder via Google Drive, but you may need to create this folder inside Google Drive first:
Google wrote:
  1. On your computer, open drive.google.com
  2. Click the settings icon (the toothed-wheel at the top-right of the page), then click Settings
  3. Check Create a Google Photos folder
  4. Click Done
Then your Google Photos can be accessed via Google Drive.

Thanks, will give that a try.

at present I dont this there is a way.

you could use Googles Backup and Sync on a desktop, and then sync the desktop folder to your NAS.

but for now, I dont think there is any direct way from NAS to Google Photos.

Tried following the steps mentioned above but they didn't work. Later on, I saw that these steps don't work anymore, did anyone find any other tips and tricks?

The android app is the same. I find that in order to save battery life iOS and Android stop apps from running in the background which I suspect stops real time sync unless the app is running.
I use Onedrive to backup my photos to a local folder in real time.
If anyone is to blame I guess it is Google for moving the goalposts.

Since Google split GooglePhotos from GoogleDrive to break it originally, I switch to using QFile (on Android) which does the job perfectly - immediate upload after I take a picture on my phone every time, no problem with background tasks being prevented at all.

My only (trivial) issue with it is that it's so immediate, so if I take a bundle of duff photos (or the kids steal my phone and take daft pics), they are uploaded to the NAS before I can "tidy" the rubbish ones to the bin.

I have a suspicion that battery optimism on the device is stopping the QFile app syncing. When the app is opened syncing is resumed. I also noticed that Auto upload settings in the app have been deleted possibly after an update.
