QNAP TVS-672XT and external networks

Post by tristankilian »

Hey guys! New to the QNAPs and they are amazing pieces, specifically for a small editing company. We recently started up this year and needed to get a storage/server system for our small office and settled on a 672XT. So far things have been smooth sailing. We moved to a new office which is a shared workspace inside an office block. WiFi is horrible and we requested a hardline which has now shown some issues - essentially introducing an external network and DHCP server into the mix. 5 OSX and 2 Windows machines.

Attached is our current set up and was thinking of improving it by using the correct settings and/or changing hardware. Maybe I just haven't set it up correctly. If there is anyone doing something similar can give some advice or if you can link some things to read up/watch, anything would be appreciated.

Setup looks fine* .. what is the issue?

*Haven't worked with Apple stuff since the late 90's or TBoIP so cannot say anything to that

btw... sounds like this

same?

*edit*
well.. the DGS-1016D is an unmanaged switch .. so the "internet line" drawn, does that go to a router doing NAT or what/who handles the DHCP and gateway for that network ?

@dolbyman

Issue is, all the devices connected via the switch that they all have a choice of two IP addresses (using Qfinder Pro) Bigger issue comes in when the internet is introduced to the network via the switch it changes IPs. The guys lose their proxies for their editing and stuff and need to relink everything. The Qnap is set to DHCP but think this might be conflicting with the office space's DHCP.

Just want to know should the devices be seeing the same IPs through Qfinder Pro? Also is the 672 able to take Internet into the server then route it out to the switch and distribute connection from there? There are usually no issues through the current set up but some do crop up. Trying to streamline it and avoid any issues.

From the drawing provided..unclear why all devices would have two IP adresses

If you want to get your DHCP under controll, introduce a router between the offfice LAN and the switch...

The NAS would not be doing this..it's a NAS, not a router
