QCenter - Possible to monitor Upload/download rates ?

Post by nomisch »

Hello,

I own a single QNAP TS-251 that I mainly use as a media server and back up system for my personal files.

I would like to monitor the upload and download rate (in Mb/s) of my NAS over time and obtain weekly/monthly graphs of usage.
I also would like, if possible, to be able to receive a mail alert if the upload/download rate is > x instantaneously or for a specified amount of time.

The only application I found was Qcenter; which might be overkill though.

I saw that I could visualize stats (infographic reports) about number of uploads and downloads that occured on the system, but I could not find the possibility to display bandwidth upload and download rate over time.

Is it possible with QCenter ?
Is there anyother program that would fullfill my needs and be simpler ?

Thank you very much !

Hello,

So I will quickly reply t omy question:

It seems Qcenter does the job for monitoring.

The Network Usage Report does more less the job.

The strange thing is that the vertical axis of the graph shows "Percentage", where 1% seems to be equal to 1MB or 1Mb. Could you let us set the max value for the vertical axis ? As my connection never reaches 100MB this does not make much sense.

After a quick google search, I have stumbled upon vnstat which should also be available on Entware-ng. Otherwise you could also check ntoppg (which does not seem available on Entware-ng, but which seems to be not too difficult to compile - otherwise ask zyxmon to include it in Entware-ng).

My 2€cents

Thank you giopas for the hints,

I had a look at vnstat (and vnstati) and it should be largley feasible to code a small script that performs my request using that command.

I however hoped that they would be some program that would already accomplish that tasks (network monitoring ...) in the available programs.
QCenter almost provides the functionalities required .... sadly it is poorly finished (no export of data, showing percent instead of MB/s, no alert)

File a feature request and hope that it will eventually be implemented. Meanwhile try that solution and, please post the how-to, so that other folks can benefit from your work :)

Dear Nomisch
Thanks for your feedback, I am Ripple, PM of Q'center
About your request:
1.Export of data > We will Plan to finish this in April.
2.Set the max value for the vertical axis > Plan in April too.
3.Network Usage Percentage instead of MB in Report> Will review it to see if need to be improved.
Currently if you press "Server" > press your NAS and go to "Performance" tab, you will see a NAS download and upload chart in KB or MB.
4.Warning >
Currently you can setup the Warning using "Notification" along with SMTP server, in Upload or Download with MB/s.

Thanks you for the feedback again for helping Q'center to get better :D
regards
Ripple
