Qcenter - Server Abnormal ... but no way to find out why

Post by louiscar »

Can anyone shed some light on this report in Qcenter.
It reports 'Abnormal' but there is absolutely no way it will tell me what is 'Abnormal' .. If find that somewhat frustrating as Qcenter is supposed to be and informative application.

Of course - but there is nothing reported there as a problem - dashboard is all good and I don't see anything to indicate an issue.

Although I haven't had a return from that address you gave me I haven't had a reply either so I don't think he's very interested.

Re: Qcenter - Server Abnormal ... but no way to find out why

Hmm, I think somewhere I saw a problem that might relate to my one. The abnormal is just an erroneous error.

I noticed on my NAS listing there was a yellow Bell under status - this said something like - "The server password has been changed" and clicking on it invited a new password of which the old one doesn't work.

After this attempt the Bell in the status turns grey and has a line through it. Hovering over this bell gives me a pop up message "Agent version is different, click to update"
When I click it says "updating" and the Yellow WARNING turns to GOOD and the RED Abnormal Server turns to GREEN Normal.
It lasts a few seconds as after this period of time the grey bell comes back and the warning and abnormal return.

So to me this is just a bug and I'm just going to ignore it from now on - The rest of my NAS is operating perfectly well so I'm not going to persue this.

Have you submitted a Helpdesk ticket to QNAP?

Did you recently change anything (upgrade QNAP FW to 4.3.x) which causes an impact to QCenter:
After updating the NAS managed by Q'center from 4.2.x to 4.3.x, the administrator of Q'center must input the password of each NAS to continue monitoring.

Hi Trexx,
Trexx wrote:Have you submitted a Helpdesk ticket to QNAP?
I asked one of the techs who needed to remote into the NAS for a completely different problem, to also take a look at a couple of other issues - one of them being the Qcenter -abnormal message so, yes but it's all taking a long time. He arranged a helpdesk remote on 10th and didn't actually get to it till the 17th so now he's looking at logs so how long it'll be I've no idea :)

Well I was updated via a teamviewer session by another Qnap tech - he manually updated me from 4.1.4 to 4.2.x and then via the UI to 4.3.3. It was after that that I noticed some odd things going on with event logs and some other things and I used Qcenter to prove an issue with QTS event.log bug and that's when I discovered this Abnormal issue.

Regarding the password - I am usually asked for the usual admin login for my NAS (I only have one NAS) so that shows top right as logged in. Then I get a list of NAS' which of course there is only one and that I can click on the name and go to its details no problem. But before clicking on the name the 'status' column is the one that has the bell.

So if I'm supposed to click on the NAS listed and enter a password this doesn't work - when I click on the bell icon - it comes up with a password box - there is no user field - just a password and when entering the password for the NAS it rejects it as invalid and then bell goes gray and message is "agent version is different - ..."
So I am convinced this is a bug as it doesn't stop me viewing the nas details - but it is generating an unsolvable loop around this password issue and report of Abnormal server.

Ah, ok. I decided to remove both Qcenter and Qcenter agent and then reinstall.

Appears to have fixed the problem .... so far anyway.
