initial configuration

Dear All,

we use QNAP 251+ kits in our business to backup enduser data to a shared location,that is the NAS. I would like to know what the best solution is for setting these up?
-backups are created in the home folders, each user have his/her own. however lots of times -due to a misconfiguration or other error (I "inherited" the management, and I was told it never really worked properly- users can't backup. There might be NTFS or share permission errors ,quota errors (although if the quota is taken off, it still happens)
what steps to follow to proper configuration of the shares, settings, ntfs possibilities?
