always active harddisks without any user on TS-253Be

Post by uutelst »

Hi All,

A month ago I upgraded from two TS-439ProII NASses to two TS-253Be units.
The speed and performance are a big plus but there's a lot of stuff I don't need or want with a simple Raid1 setup.
What concerns me is the permanent rattle of the two Seagate 4TB disks of the NAS in the "home" group.
The other NAS, running in a different group with two 6TB seagate disks is totally silent because the disks spin, but are not active.

My question:
Is the network activity polling the disks on permanent basis or is there a service active that uses the disks as an internal memory extension?
Both NASses have 2 GB internal memory and are running the standard windows service and Apple Bonjour.

The older NASses never had this problem and I am asking me if Qnap is trying to let peaple buy the ssd-card in order to let the SSD's do the frequent operating stuff.
