In this period it is not even possible to update manually by clicking on update now. Maybe you should manually download the updated definitions, but I haven't even tried.
Currently the latest virus definition is February 17, 2022 at 4:25 am
Already this morning I received the notification of failure to update! Very annoying! Does anyone know why?

Me too, TS-451D2 running firmware 5.0.0.1932. Virus definitions update failed after the 17th Feb update. A manual update worked (to the 19th Feb), using https://database.clamav.net/daily.cvd

Re: [Antivirus] Failed to update virus definitions. Update definitions manually, or try again later.
This problem is almost certainly in QNAP's court. They are using an outdated version of ClamAV. Until they get that up to date, fiddling about with other things isn't going to help much.
I am not using some ancient firmware on an obsolete system either! In addition, I've tested using their own mirror with ClamAV's disabled, and vice-versa. Their own mirror has not updated since Feb 17.

Mine is showing as last updated on the 21/2 at 4.25am on my TS-253D?
I would think it's linked to the firmware update you're on, rather than the QNAP you have though

How did you check the versioning of ClamAV?

Received reply to my ticket from Feb 12, 2022
They now admit it's a bug.
No reply as to if they are going to fix/solve the problem nor any timeframe but I'm hopeful a fix as now they admit problem.
Will advise as soon as I get an update.
Last bug ticket I submitted took them about 15 days for fix.

LOL - QNAP Support just advised me that "Hi, I have already investigated and it is a Clamav issue, they are working to correct it but I do not have an estimated time for it to be solved."

Re: [Antivirus] Failed to update virus definitions. Update definitions manually, or try again later.
G'day all,
Our QNAP definitions are out of date and also failing to update too.
I went on Clamav.net to get a Manual Update file looking specifically for a .cvd version as suggested by our QNAP but couldn't find .cvd anywhere.
Been a bit hesitant using this as the URL is slightly different from http://www.clamav.net/ or http://www.clamav.net/downloads, etc.
Tried to browse through to their website to find https://database.clamav.net/ url but not been able to.
Maybe I'm being over cautious but have come unstuck in the past with slight variations in url's before, as you can probably image.
Has anyone else used this this please?
Appreciate reasurance!
Thanks in anticipation!!

Hi,
This link [https://database.clamav.net/] you can find here:
Go to home page CLAMAV [https://www.clamav.net]
click link on the top page - documentation [https://docs.clamav.net]
in documentation find and click point - 6.3. Signature Database (CVD) [https://docs.clamav.net/faq/faq-cvd.html]
scroll down to: "I'm running ClamAV on a lot of clients on my local network. Can I serve the cvd files from a local server so that each client doesn't have to download them from your servers?"
point no. 2 - The second possible solution is to:
Let FreshClam download the *.cvd files from http://database.clamav.net to the webserver's DocumentRoot.
I hope I helped

Re: [Antivirus] Failed to update virus definitions. Update definitions manually, or try again later.
Hi there, I found an old thread. The commands in that thread did work for me.
1) I struggled a bit was to find the volume and to download the updated files, there, after I just went through manually.
The path in my case: [/share/MD0_DATA/.antivirus/usr/share/clamav]
2) wget on the NAS did not work, so I copied the path&name into the browser on my windows box,
then it downloaded the files into my download folder
3) Issued the command using Putty
CD /share/MD0_DATA/.antivirus/usr/share/clamav
rm *.cvd
rm *.cld
4) I copied the files from windows to NAS using an FTP client (WinSCP)
5) freshclam -u admin
all set and working

A workaround for my NAS is this:
CODE: SELECT ALL
VOLUME=`/sbin/getcfg Public path -f /etc/config/smb.conf | cut -d '/' -f 3`
cd /share/$VOLUME/.antivirus/usr/share/clamav/
rm *.cvd
rm *.cld
wget http://database.clamav.net/daily.cvd
wget http://database.clamav.net/main.cvd
wget http://database.clamav.net/bytecode.cvd
freshclam -u admin

Clam no longer appears on the AppCenter or the software store. Looks like it is deprecated. Thanks for letting us know QNAP.
