Random Shutdowns after about 24h operation

Post by karel.krobath »

Hi,

I ran in to the issue, that my NAS TS-231P shutdowns randomly, without any interaction. The device can be started again with an Wake-On-Lan or with the power button. I did reinitialize the device and reconfigured it with NFS and SMB.

Is there any possibility to get further information on the system? (There is also no power schedule for automated shutdowns....)

The system log contains:
Severity Level Date Time Users Source IP Application Category Content
Information 2020/08/06 09:28:20 System 127.0.0.1 Power NAS Power Status [Power] System shut down on Thu Aug 6 09:28:19 CEST 2020.

Any help is appreciated.

Kind greetings

also what is your configuration. single disks? raid1? raid0? jbod?

are you using compatible hdds? or are you using desktop model hdds? did you run smart test see what their status is?

i have a raid1, the disks are OK in the test, disks are supported according to the qnap web site.

what annoys me the most is, that the source for the shutdown is missing in the log. that would be very helpful for further troubleshooting.

Good morning Everybody,

I have the same issue that appear randomly on several units, same models,
we have 2 QTS231+ that gives always the same result (Shutdown) after Network and virtual switch Stop....
(attached log), it could happend with and without operations running on it....

We found a freaky solution with a WOL procedure that runs every hour...

Everything seems correct,
HDD compatible
RAM ok

This happend randomly on every NAS
same result with old and new firmware...

Looking on all the operations that runs in that time (around 03 AM in this case) I found the Malware remover,
disable it but nothing changes....

Dear mand0,

I am having the same issue now with my TS-231P, ie. (Shutdown) after Network and virtual switch Stopped. Did you manage to find a solution? Really frustrating that it keeps shutting down every few days. Appreciate very much if you shed some light on this issue.

Thank you in advance and have a nice day.

open a ticket with QNAP, you will unlikely get an answer from a 1 time poster from a year ago

even in 2022, opening a ticket is still the thing to go with (as advised earlier)

btw in 2022, you should stay far away from pptp

Re: Random Shutdowns after about 24h operation

on QNAP there is a power scheduled. was there anything configured there? BY default this setting is disabled. But if someone configured this, it's possible for the NAS to automatically shutdown on a set timer schedule.

random shutdowns could also possibly be bad ram, or other hardware issues. Or in my case last time it was a BAD FIRMWARE. Or maybe it could be a malware issue perhaps? MY random reboot issues got solved by updating to a new firmware (this is specific to my own issue, and may not necessarily be what is going on for you. i'm just providing an example of a possible reason) and doing a clean reinitialize to reinstall QTS.

That's all i can think of as to what is possibly going on here. For better help, best ask helpdesk like others pointed out.

for vpn protocol, only use either openvpn or wireguard :'

one of 4 QNAPs, new and updated, original hardware .
so out of those 4, only that 1 model has the issue yes?

Did you try reinitializing the nas? to see if that helped with resolving this?
