Hi again, no I'd prefer not to go that route. There is indeed a lot of data on there and I have bought a new QNAP to setup and transfer data do.

I've had that a good while in fact but just not the time yet to do that. And the data I do not want to loose for sure.

I will try the reset again. I cannot imagine I got it wrong but a couple more tries will do no harm.

Thanks

Dosborne apologies for some reason there's no reply button on your post. I just read, thanks for posting.

So currently I'm trying Admin (and admin) ... not sure if upper case A or lower and then same again in password field. But also the Mac address headed MAC1 off the rear label.
Did you wait for the beep? Then try: (per the link)
QTS 4.4.1 and older versions

The default password of admin is admin, You can login the NAS via admin/admin after resetting the NAS.

And no I did not wait for any bleep. I will go back and read the link again .... definitely there was no beep. Wonder if I left it long enough?

My guess would be you did not wait long enough, a common mistake, that's why I posted the suggestion. It is often overlooked in the instructions.

Make sure you take that lesson and make sure you always have backups (a RAID is NOT a backup) .. not having backups is an expensive and/or painful lesson for many to learn (look at the deadbolt malware thread)

Definitely worth a retry and will do that shortly.

Many thanks for the suggestion. Will report back.

That's very odd. If I hold it for 3 or 33 seconds or anything in-between, there's no bleep at all.

Have logged it with QNAP but very strange one

Could be a disabled button (there is an option in GUI)

Could be Dolbyman but I'm a user not a tech guy.

Whilst it is a possibility, I've never really ventured past updating firmware since new. It's just a big store for stuff, I don't do any clever stuff ... probably the most vanilla NAS QNAP sold. And in fairness it's served me very well in that respect.
