Can't map network drive

Post by eric.vanh »

Hi guys,
I finally received my new NAS,
I pluged it in place of my previous (dead) one,
2 RJ45 connected to my router, then my 3 laptops, 2 Linux, 1 windows

=> I can't map any network (shared) drive, neither on Linux nor Windows, going through QFinder

The same error message pops:

Any idea ?

note/edit: I've tried using the user, the superuser and the root (root disabled = didn't work)

Are you using SMB or NFS shares?

If NFS: please post a screenshot of the NFS host access settings page for your share.

Did you tick the box marked "Access right"? viewtopic.php?p=808372#p808372

Hi,
On my Linux, I tried both SMB and NFS.
SMB shows me the shared folders. I click on it, it request name+pwd, I provide (tried both user and superuser) and then I have the error message: "Access denied"
On the windows computer, (Printscreen) I use QFinder, and map the drives directly. Here agan, I can see the folders, when I click on it it ask for login+pwd, and then access is rejected

As for the NFS access right, all shared folder are:
Access right (ticked)
Sync (Ticked) droplist: Wdelay
Secure (Ticked)
IP = * ; sqash Read/Write ; Squash option "Squash all users"

And now I've managed to access the shared folders on my Linux using "MS Windows network drive"
As FTP and webdav got me the same error message (access denied)

I will never understand why so many people using this waste Qfinder to map drives!
IMHO Qfinder is totally unnecessary tool. The only use is to ease the finding of a NAS for the first time installation. If someone has at least basic knowledge of network there is no need for this tool!

Referring to signature there are Cisco routers in use, so why do you need Qfinder for mapping a network drive?

All my clients (Windows, Linux, Android) can map the drives using SMB or nfs without any issues. Windows always needs the credentials. If your Windows is/was able to map the drives without any login credentials, then I am rather sure that credentials have been stored in Windows.
Storing the credentials in Windows is the most common reason for the login failed error message, because login name or password has changed, but Windows uses the stored credentials.

For Linux there is no need to use SMB, nfs is the usual way. NFS service is running? Which nfs version do you use?
What is the output of a

Code: Select all

showmount -e NAS-IP
command at client?

I'm in 100% agreement. I've been running multiple QNAP NAS units for quite a few years and have never even considered loading any of the Q* suite of applications. A browser to access the admin console and ssh once in a while = happy camper.

Any NAS (or server) should have a static IP (IMO) so no "finding" required. If in doubt, I'd check my router DHCP table before thinking of using an app.....

I don't use QFinder by choice, but only because the other ways didn't work, so I tried QFinder mapping just in case.
I am now able to access shared folder through windows mapped network folder, and on Linux through SMB as NFS is still a no-go, with access right error message.

Code: Select all

 sudo showmount -e NAS-IP
gives me:
Export list for 192.168.211.211:
/Acronis *
/homes 192.168.211.0/32
/Downloads *
/Multimedia *
/Public *
/Recordings *
/Web *

NOTE1: NAS IP is permanent, .211.211 and .211.212, with binding to the first one.
NOTE2: My DNS is still not up, as I've tried many options, DNS IP addresses, including 8.8.8.8 which I don't want to keep, even 127.0.0.1, but no can do, I still get the "DNS can't resolve host" error msg. Firewall is installed, and set to "OFF"

What didn't work when you try mapping it manually with the static IP address? Personally, I would be more concerned about that, as it is a basic network function. If you can't map it manually, I fail to see why an app (just an extra unnecessary layer) would work. That is where I'd spend my troubleshooting efforts.

There was a difference though, when using the "mapping" of QFinder, it did show me the folders but when I selected one, then I got the error msg

Anyway, folders are mapped now. Problem is I still can't on the Linux comp. Only using SMB, not when using NFS. Could the DNS problem be the reason ? I don't think so
