LXD Export vs Duplicate

Post by Rello »

Hi,

I am using LXD containters with a dedicated setup.

In the old LXC world I could export any container as "backup" and then import it as often I want.
With the new version of container station I can not export LXD - just dockers.

I tried "Duplicate" of an LXD but this only created a new container out of the originally downloaded image.
It is not duplicating the container with its settings.

Did anyone find out how to really duplicate an existing configuration (from the GUI)?

This topic is so annoying.
I opened a ticket with qnap and i am stuck in loop of autoresponders.

"We don´t understand; please submit a video"
=> Video sent
"We don´t understand; please open remote connection"
=> you don´t need remote connection; just do the same on your system
"We don´t understand; please open remote connection"

Hi,
Opened also a support request.
Feedback: LXD does not support the export functionality… right now. There is no ETA if and when it will support it.

Actually it is not a equivalent replacement of LXC, backup / export MUST be functional before many users can start replacing their LXC containers.

From the latest Release Notes of Container Station:

Container Station 2.4.3.208
( 2021/11/11 )
[Important Notes]
- Container Station version 3.0 (or later) is ending support of LXC containers. The application will cease support on the creation, modification, and utilization of LXC containers. Ensure that you backup all relevant data and files before LXC containers reach the end of support.
- LXC containers have been removed from the recommended list for x86-64 models. Users looking for alternative containers can search for images from the LXD image server for creating LXD containers.

What does this mean?
With Container Station 3.0 the application does not start LXC containers anymore? And we should move over to LXD without a possibility to backup the new containers?
Are they kidding us?

I think there are enough users which have Auto-Update enabled, they will have be fun I think...

I'm on the latest QNAP image and the export/import features worked just fine!

2.6 recently fixed import and export of LXD from Container Station. Numerous other problems still exist. I have workarounds for most. Check out my "Scottibyte YouTube" channel.
