Do Firmware Upgrades make drives Obsolete?

Post by bullitt5094 »

I've been operating my HS-210 for years with two Segate st4000vn000. Suddenly the system tells me there are write errors on BOTH drives. I removed the drives and tested them individually using SeaGate tools and they are both fine. I reformatted one, returned it to the NAS and it continues to say it has write errors and won't utilize it. I see now the recommended drive is a ST4000VN is a 003 not a 000 as mine are. The question is, are my 2015 drives just suddenly too old? Have the firmware updates eliminated their usability?

No.. the compatibility list is to be seen as advisory not a hardcoded lookup table (for the NAS to refuse)

If both drives show issues, it could also be a NAS backplane issue
