TS-459U+ Max Drive Capacity
we're close to running out of space which is currently loaded up with 4 - Seagate ST2000NM0011 drives. What's the max capacity of drives we can put in this thing w/out any issues?
I was looking @ these and was interested in the 8TB drives, but wasn't sure whether or not it was doable. I don't see any reason why not, but i'm certainly open to suggestions!
This is what i've looked at
Seagate ST4000NM0033 - 4TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 128MB Cache 3.5"
Seagate ST6000NM0024 - 6TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 128MB Cache 3.5"
Seagate ST8000NM0055 - 8TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 256MB Cache 3.5"
Any issues with any of the above in regards to compatibility?
thanks in advance

Re: TS-459U+ Max Drive Capacity
as that is an older nas - remember you have a 16tb limit - i.e. same as my 459 Pro II

If on the 4.1 + firmware, 16TB is only the expansion limit, you can create a new RAID volume with more than thatSpider99 wrote:as that is an older nas - remember you have a 16tb limit - i.e. same as my 459 Pro II

Re: TS-459U+ Max Drive Capacity
we're running 4.2.2 (2016/09/01). So adding 4-8TB drives is an option? i'd basically be wiping the thing and starting from scratch after we get everything backed up.dolbyman wrote:If on the 4.1 + firmware, 16TB is only the expansion limit, you can create a new RAID volume with more than thatSpider99 wrote:as that is an older nas - remember you have a 16tb limit - i.e. same as my 459 Pro II

Hang on you cant build a raid bigger than 16TB on a Cat1 32bit nas or are you saying things have changed - have you actually dont it then?dolbyman wrote:If on the 4.1 + firmware, 16TB is only the expansion limit, you can create a new RAID volume with more than thatSpider99 wrote:as that is an older nas - remember you have a 16tb limit - i.e. same as my 459 Pro II

Re: TS-459U+ Max Drive Capacity
I think the 459U+ used to be SMB (with x86 CPU), I thought QNAP has enabled volumes larger than 16TB if started from scratch ... there is a couple of threads recently that confirm this
@Spider99 you actually replied to this one
viewtopic.php?f=182&t=124565&p=566997&h ... on#p566997So, in TS-859U+ expansion above 16TB is not permitted, but a new RAID6 larger than 16TB can be created.

@dolbyman
hmmm yes well cough cough
QNAP changing the rules
i did look the other day on my 459 for the comment about 16TB limits and it has disappeared from the strorage manager area of gui - which i thought odd but just dismissed - now though....
also awhile back the 459 suddenly recognised it actually had 4gig in rather than showing 3gig as it had always done.... change from 32 bit to 64 bit perhaps
maybe the number of nas that cant go beyond 16tb has been reduced hmmm...
no detail from qnap - no surpirse
Cant test this as do not have enough large drives
So good luck to OP

Re: TS-459U+ Max Drive Capacity
the post i referenced, has somebody successfully create a new raid over 16TB .. on the same device class as yours..don't know how much more definitive it has to be

Re: TS-459U+ Max Drive Capacity
Forgive me for opening up an old thread, but...I have a TS-459U+ with 2TB drives in it and one needs to be replaced.
Can I stick any enterprise grade 3Gb/s SATA 2Tb drive in this thing? Or does it have to match what's in there already?
I "inherited" this device last week because the "owner" is out for a couple weeks (and incommunicado), and we had a critical error on the device. I know nothing about these, so I'm trying to learn as fast as I can! Any help with a link to what drives I can put in this thing would be great; I can't seem to find that info anywhere.
Thanks!

Re: TS-459U+ Max Drive Capacity
as long as the drive is same or larger in size and compatible with NAS use (enterprise drive should be fine).. all should be good
