Seagate ironwolf 4TB on TS-251+

Post by TA3AS »

Hi,
I've just purchased TS251+ and two Seagate ironwolf 4 TB (ST4000VN008) disks. I think that these disks are not recognized by TS251+.
Setup goes through naming the device, etc and then starts to format. Formatting stuck Around 22% and it's been sitting there spinning for an hour now without update.
Any clue or ideas?

Best Regards,

Hi @dolbyman,
First thank you very much for your help and reply.
I installed my old Samsung HDD. Now, I configured my Qnap TS-251+.
I tried to insert my problematic Seagate drives one by one to empty slot. Every time It beeped and HDD ligt turned to red.
mdstat output as follows.

Code: Select all

[~] # cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid10] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [multipath]
md1 : active raid1 sda3[0]
      478431616 blocks super 1.0 [1/1] [U]

md256 : active raid1 sda2[0]
      530112 blocks super 1.0 [2/1] [U_]
      bitmap: 1/1 pages [4KB], 65536KB chunk

md13 : active raid1 sda4[0]
      458880 blocks super 1.0 [32/1] [U_______________________________]
      bitmap: 1/1 pages [4KB], 65536KB chunk

md9 : active raid1 sda1[0]
      530048 blocks super 1.0 [32/1] [U_______________________________]
      bitmap: 1/1 pages [4KB], 65536KB chunk

unused devices: <none>
I'm also attaching error logs. You can see that I'm trying to insert 4TB Seagte disks one by one. It is weird because error log is same for each different disk. Are my disks faulty?

if both drives cause the same error, it might very well be a defective port in the QNAP, best is to contact QNAP via support ticket

Hi @dolbyman,
I don't think so. Because these ports can work with my old and low capacity sata Samsung HDD. I'll try to connect these two seagate drives to a windows PC tomorrow.
Maybe there is firmware problem at these Seagate disks. I don't know. So I'm very confused now.
