Hi my TS-809U has the ST4000VN000 and one disk failed. What's odd is that I could not find this disk in the compatibility site for TS-809U RP (couldn't find TS-809U). The closest I found was ST4000VM000 for compatibility. Anyways, I purchased the ST4000VN008 thinking it's a newer model of the ST4000VN000 and it should work. The "newer model" was stated in the Amazon site. I took out the bad disk and hot swapped with the new disk but no beeps or response. Gui says no disk. I checked the new disk and it seems ok with my sata to usb adapter. Anyone has any thoughts? Thanks!

I agree, it should. It should at least show up as present.

Have you tried the disk again?

If not maybe your backplane connector is broken?

P3R, Thanks for the reply. You said, "It should at least show up as present.", which got me to try another (uncompatible) disk I had laying around and no response. Something must have stopped the NAS disks from being hot swappable. I was reluctant to shutdown/restart since this NAS does seem to find new problems after restarting, but I added the new replacement disk back in the enclosure, shutdown, and restarted the unit anyway and the new disk did show up. Again, thanks for the hitting the reply button. It would of ** to return the disk and get the older version to just to find out the OS just needed a reboot. :S
