Drive Swap

Post by FlaParrotHead »

Currently have installed in my TVS-471
Bays 1-3: 3 WD 6TB drives as RAID5
Bay 4: 1 500MB drive stand alone.

Replacing the 3 6TB drives with 12TB drives, I know I can do that one by one and the RAID system will build them automatically mirroring the others. Once all three are replaced, I can easily reallocate and increase the shard pool.

QUESTION: once done, can I place one of the 6TB drives into bay 4 and reformat it as a stand alone without confusing the systems.

Thanks!

If you want to reuse the drive(s) , clean it with diskpart before reinserting it, then it is treated as brand new drive

Thanks! Not sure that I have what’s needed to attach/see the drive out of the NAS and where I am now unlikely the cables would be available. I’ll have to see if I have anything still around to connect it to my MAC.

Image Just likely unavailable on my little spit of land where I am now. Hopefully I have one stashed in a box or I can do it once reinserted in bay #4 through QNAP utilities natively.

Do you know if I should be able to do a format and deep clean of the drive if put into bay 4 using QNAP utilities?

you could zero the drive in the nas (forum searxh) but better do it externally before you zero the wrong drive or even the dom (happened before)
