Best Buy just had a sale on 4 TB NAS WD hard drives, but they aren't listed as compatible on qnap's website. They look to be the same as the WD Reds. Has anyone bought these and do they work? Any reason why they aren't listed as compatible?
WD - NAS 4TB Internal SATA Hard Drive for Desktops
Model: WDBMMA0040HNC-NRSN SKU: 5067800
Thanks for any input!

Re: WD Drive from Best Buy, Compatibility
I think QNAP have stopped testing desktop grade drives to be honest.
If it's not listed, I tend to see if Synology have listed it, if they have, I take the gamble that it will be ok.
Do your own research thou.
EDIT: I glaned over NAS and saw desktop on he op, it does look like it's a NAS grade drive. See if Synology have listed it and make up your own mind, they have a 3 year warranty at least.

Unless I'm being blind, I can't find the setting to change what kind of QNAP I have on my profile. I now own a TS-253A

Thanks everyone for the responses. Just an FYI, in case anyone else is looking to buy one of these, they are indeed the WD Reds model: WD40EFRX.

Difference between WD Red Drives mentioned here: there is no difference in hardware, only the packaging
1. They're both WD40EFRX
2. Retail HDD: comes from WD in a pretty multi-colored box for retail display, with screws and a small installation booklet
3. OEM HDD: called OEM "Original Equipment Manufacturer" comes with nothing but the HDD in static bag
snipped from below source
source: Here's a KB article (http://support.wdc.com/knowledgebase/an ... px?ID=1352) you can take a look at.
I haven't seen any Retail packaged HDD's in decades, all I have seen is OEM's openly sold by themselves.
so, back to point two, if they are both WD40EFRX, and they are listed on the QNAP Compatibility List (yes they are) as you can see from below image, then there shouldn't be any reason why the Best Buy units wouldn't work. you can search the QNAP Compatibility List https://www.qnap.com/en-au/compatibility/ by NAS, Devices and Cameras, select Devices then go from there
