Hi,
I have a TS-453bmini and have recently upgraded from 4TB Red's to 8TB red's and ever since the NAS's fan's have been on 50% of the time (even in idle) in a roughly 30min on, 30 min off cycle which worries me greatly.
Right now, the NAS is idling and the temperatures are:
CPU 47c
System 38c
Disk 1 51c
Disk 2 49c
Disk 3 48c
Disk 4 49c
They will continue to to rise until the fan kick-in and then they slowly cool and the fan stops (and repeat).
Should I be concerned?

Hello.
I would suggest that the issue is with the software.
Something's waking up the disks and reads/writes on them.
Check the packages you are running.
See https://www.qnap.com/en-us/how-to/faq/a ... ndby-mode/
QSync installed on your computer also does periodical checks.
Also, not listed here, I noticed Qsirch also does not allow the disks to sleep properly.
I have the same HDDs and did quite an investigation with them (see viewtopic.php?f=356&t=157139)
Cheers.

Re: 8TB Reds (WD80EFAX) cause fans to be on 50% of the time
Thanks, I'll check that out, but the unit is idling when the fans go on and nothing has changed (software wise) since swapping out the 4TB for 8TB.
I only have Plex installed and 2 containers (Homebridge and Home assistant), both of which I switched off for testing purposes). ...so basically. nothing running.

The 8TB reds will run hotter because they are spinning at 7200 rpm - whereas the 4TB were spinning at 5400. See my other post - WD have just clarified that 8TB EFAX reds are classed as 5400 rpm (read performance), but actually spin at 7200.
