WD Red Plus NAS Hard Drive WD120EFAX

Post by soerengormrasmussen »

Dear Forum

I am trying to find out whether this WD HDD would actually be a good product.
There are several discussions regarding the newer WD HDD's, but I can't seem to find a "Yes/No" answers.

The Nas server will be a QNAP HS-453DX (4GB) and i would like to install 2 x 12TB storage, and
to limit noice and heat, I believe that 5400 RPM would be the best choice.

I have not been able to figure out whether this particular HDD is helium or air based.

Perhaps, one of you would be able to recommend or advice against this model.

Looking forward to reading your comments
kind regards

It is NAS approved..not sure what else you want to know...

Have external backups at all times, as a RAID is NOT a backup

Hi,
Thanks for your comment

My question evolves around the QNAP compatability list, where the disk is not mentioned.
and I read some discussions stating that the new WD NAS series dont live up the former RED NAS brand.
So, due to my lack of knowledge I was wondering if some in this forum had any expereince or knowledge about these disks.

Cheers

Not every disk will be tested in every NAS..issues are mostly with SMR drives up to 6TB (WD non Plus or Pro) as WD used incompatible technology

12TB drives don't have this issue
