I have three WD40EFRXs and just managed to get my 4th one to replace the aging Seagate. Not the newest stuff but at least CMR and not SMR
It looks 2 of my Reds have older firmware than the other one: 80.00A80 vs 80.00A82, so I'm thinking of upgrading it. Unfortunately those days I'm left off with laptops only and have not PC so I could connect them to SATA port and they are obviously not recognized when connected via USB using the external enclosure. While WD offers a Linux firmware updater, it runs only on x86 architecture and not on ARM .
Just wondering if you ever come across such a problem and managed to overcome it in any way? Are there any USB enclosures that can "emulate" SATA controller and could be used for firmware update?
HDD firmware update with no SATA port access?
