Plex Player can't find server on LAN

Post by Skeptical.me »

I have recently reset my TS-251 (QTS 4.3.3.0210) and am in the process of setting it back up.

I have installed Plex Media Server from the QTS QNAP App Store and have set it up.

On my Apple TV 4 I have linked my Plex account to the Plex App.

The Apple TV 4 Plex App seems to be trying to remote stream the content (but I'm not sure) rather than detecting the server on the local network.

On the Plex Media Server on the NAS "Enable local network discovery (GDM)" in setting is enabled.

I have updated Plex Media Server, I have deleted and reinstalled the Apple TV 4 Plex App, and I have restarted the Apple TV.

I have no idea what else to do.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Check all your network settings on the Apple TV and the NAS.
Use the forum search feature before posting.

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

Thank you very much for your reply.

The network settings look correct on both the NAS and Apple Tv. They are both connected to my router on address 192.168.1.241 (NAS), and 192.168.1.157 (ATV).

However, I did notice on the Plex server in settings > remote access (which I have disabled) that it sates the local address as "Private 10.0.5.1 : 32400", forgive my ignorance but shouldn't that be 192.168.1.241:3200?

I'm not very familiar with these things. Sorry about that.

Your private IP should match the IP of your NAS. The port could be different if you specified to use a different port. On mine the port is 32400 but I use PLEX on a Windows 2012 server and not on my NAS.

Thanks again for the reply.

The private IP is now the same as the NAS and I am able to connect to the plex server on my iPhone using the plex app. But still the ATV won't connect. Its got me baffled.

Thanks for the help!
