HD STation & Plex Server draining CPU

Post by simonz21 » Fri Nov 10, 2017 3:09 pm

Can anyone explain to me why HD Station & Plex are using so much CPU? Yesterday I had to shut them down as they were draining 100% CPU at 6am when no one had been watching Plex for hours. This morning they are still consuming up to 80%.

Any suggestions?

Process Name User PID Status CPU Usage Memory
hdsfusemnt admin 3406 Sleeping 39.8 % 186.5 MB
plexhometheater admin 13166 Running 12.24 % 15.5 MB

About HD_Station 3.2.1 is a known problem as father_mande said.
So about plex now, the only reason to consume so much CPU while no one watches could be a scheduled task for refreshing libraries.

I tried restarting HDS and stopping Plex Server, but this didn't reduce hdsfusemnt at all. A total reboot helped for a while and everything was normal, but even now hdsfusemnt is consuming up to 25-50% CPU, with plexhometheater taking another 15-25%. And I haven't watched anything on Plex for a couple of days, nor changed any of the files/folders.

Process Name User PID Status CPU Usage Memory
plexhometheater admin 6336 Running 12.56 % 8.3 MB
hdsfusemnt admin 27310 Sleeping 25.88 % 131.5 MB
kernel_processes admin 0 Running 4.52 % 0 KB

Are there any practical solutions to stop this high-burn CPU?

I'm having the same problem on a TS-453A.

The problems started when I updated the firmware to 4.3.3.0361 Build 20171101 and then updated HD Station.

At the moment hdsfusemnt is using 51% CPU and 512MB memory.
Using lsof on it reveals the following information:
It has 3495 open file handles a small sample of the open files is shown below:

Code: Select all

I'm having the same issue with my TS-251A. I've tried restarting HD Station (several times), uninstalling and rolling back to version 3.1.C. Unfortunately when I did that it wouldn't let me re-install Plex Home Theater. I've sent a trouble ticket in to see what they say. Hopefully this is something they can fix.

Hi,
I´m having the same issue.
NAS Model: TS-453 Pro
QTS: Version 4.3.3.0361
HD Station: 3.2.1

It takes a lot of memory and high CPU Usage:
Process Name User PID Status CPU Usage Memory
hdsfusemnt admin 5529 Sleeping 34.49 % 1.5 GB

I will open a ticket also to push QNAP stuff to solve it.

Best regards.

Will that effect anything installed such as Plex? I know that when I tried uninstalling HDS and reinstalling 3.1.c if wouldn't let me install Plex Home Theater until I updated HDS again.

I've raised a ticket and pointed QNAP to this thread, so hopefully someone will take a look and make a suggestion.

I was able to downgrade to 3.1.C and it does seem to reduce the CPU load. Now HD Station is using less than 1% idle and 254MB with no running apps. I haven't heard anything back from support yet. Interestingly, the revision history page for HDS doesn't list version 3.2.1, so it's unclear what the upgrade is supposed to do.

Same issue here with 3.2.1 getting annoyed. Backed to 3.1.C - no issue.

3.2.1 was taking 35% of my CPU and officially 3GB RAM looking on the process list, while system claimed 75% of my RAM (16GB) is used and separate exchange swap file has to be created (lol).

Now it's 1% CPU and 6% of RAM is being used with 3.1.C

Additionally when I was trying to get to my Video library it was so slow reacting on 3.2.1

QNAP fixed it! No idea what they did as had to provide them access via Helpdesk, but they did something, because this morning there is no FUSE drain at all:

Process Name User PID Status CPU Usage Memory
sysRequest.cgi admin 910 Zombie 1.25 % 0 KB
plexhometheater admin 18009 Running 10.47 % 11.5 MB
python admin 31659 Sleeping 0.75 % 15.4 MB

Can you give me your HelpDesk Ticked ID, so I can raise the same instead of all the time closing poping-up window with "New HybridDesk Station Now update" ?

But I'm not using PLEX. My problem is with this process :
