QNAP NAS Community Forum

Opening Plex Media Server and it has a banner that update is available and to manually download it. How do I do that? When I hit the prompt to download manually it starts to send it to my MacBookPro and it asks what to do with it since there are no applications on the Mac to open it with.
I have the download package on my Mac , PlexMediaServer-1.18.7.2457-77cb9455c-x86_64.qpkg. How do I get it to the QNAP TS-251D.

download the latest qpkg from the plex website

and manually install it via app center (explained in manual..but very easy to do even without it)

I have been reading and searching the Forum and Qnap Support documents but am still fuzzy on some things.
I did manage to set up my 2 drives as a RAID 1.
Created a Thick volume on HDD1somehow.
Made a 1TB pool on/in (?) the volume.
Where can I find the best idiots guide to NAS Setup?
I would like to let my family each have an area they can use for storage, computer backups, Files, Music, possibly videos, that can be accessed by all of the family members but they can't delete or remove (only a copy of item) from each others. I am leery of letting the photo apps aggregate and delete duplicates from simply just having one Volume/Pool.

I look forward to suggestions. If I could understand what the key words to search for in me quest it would really help.

PLEX was just like you said, very easy to manually install. Thank You!

I have way too many questions and need to find where a "dummies" version of the QTS manual can be located.
My main wish is to be able to create a place on the NAS to hold all of my families photos on that is not just a single storage area but 4-5 different ones, one for each family members photos. Does this make sense?

Other things I want to know about is this QVPN , are there better/easier (?),since its sounds like I shouldn't use MyQNAPcloud.
I just want to not screw everything up by doing it wrong.

I am looking for buying same nas as you (ts 251d 4go) to make backups ans use it as média server for my tv ...

Can you tell me if plex is working with that nas ? I read in a patchnote plex was removed and i want to be sure before buying...

Are you happy with it ? Is it directly connected to the tv via hdmi ?
Can it (plex) or cinema28 read 720p 1080p and 4k movies ? No problèms with codecs ?

plex player support was removed..not plex server

even thought qnap units have hdmi out...just forget about it

I indeed have the intention To connect the nas To the tv with hdmi. What does it mean ? No plex needed ? Even for codec support?

it means get an external player...a qnap nas is not a good player..and with plex playback support removed..use a different player

computer (w bad hdd?) = plex player

Or replace computer with $30 Roku device and get fully supported Plex client to go with Plex server on nas

I meant nas hard drive not bad.

I installed plex server on a dedicated computer with nas ironwolf 8tb. I installed plex player on my 4k tv.

I was said qnap nas was bad as plex server... ? My first aim was To buy qnap ts 251 d with 2 ironwolf 8tb, use it as server , connect it in hdmi To tv and use the nas as média server in addition To backup everything.

In the end i already had a 4th computer i did not use. First tests were good (better than universel média server)
