Can't install Plex update

Post by pvoveris »

I tried to install the latest version of Plex, but I get an error that says it can't install and to look at the system log for details and opens the system log. Unfortunately the log provides no details, or even an entry that it tried to install something.

I did try to reinstall the same version I am running, and it also states the same error.

Any ideas?

TIA
Peter

Not that, I have a TVS-882 which is an i5 64bit.

The problem seems to be with the app center, as I can install manually from an SSH session with no errors.

Also, it really seems to not even start as I input the file, click Install button, get the message, Am I sure that I want to install, click the OK button and it immediately comes back that it can't install and to see the system log for more details.

Oh if only it had any entry at all for the attempt, but nothing.

I have been updating my Plex Server for years with no problems, however I seem to have suddenly developed problems installing anything using the Install Manually method of AppCenter.

No, not at all.
Updated firmware on the 25th of Sept.
Updated Plex on the 29th of Sept
Updated Plex on the 3rd of October
Tried to Update on the 10th of October, no go, can't install, see system log for details, nothing in any log to indicate it even tried to install.

I can upload the qpkg file to a share, use SSH to sign in, navigate to the share and run the qpkg, no problems no errors, install messages appear in system log.

I can install fine from the QNAP Store, say Text Editor, runs fine, no errors.

I tried downloading the Text Editor as a qpkg from the Web store, saved it to my pc and used the Install Manually, just like Plex, gives the same error, but a couple of seconds later it installs while still displaying the message that it can't be installed, lol. Try Plex again, just to see if it installs after a short wait, no go.

They had no suggestions, other than deleting everything and starting anew. Just waiting now to see if the next firmware update corrects it.

Should the next firmware update not correct this, I think I will try to escalate this beyond tech support.

I have the same problem with a 932x.

I have already contacted the tech support of QNAP and read of several situation like ours one.
It seems due to QNAP app center trouble.

When I had the meeting with QNAP tech support they suggested me to wait they official release the new version of Plex on the official QNAP AppCenter...

The only way I found to make the upgrade is manually. Read here:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/unable-to-inst ... t/294399/7

Please let me know if you find anything better. Thank you!

No, that is the best way to install the updates until they fix the issue with AppCenter. QNAP did release a firmware update today and I installed it. It did not correct the issue, however as part of the update it did install a new log viewer called QULog Center which finally shows what the error is, which states Insufficient Space on the volume.

That is not the case however as there is plenty of space available, so unless some digits are getting transposed to need more space than necessary for the update this seems to be the problem.

As i stated before I get this with all products I try to use Install Manually through the AppCenter GUI.

I did work with support and have a ticket open for this issue, so will see what happens.
