you click the arrow keys for browsing.
if you want to skip a few pages ahead, you can type in manually the page number.
in terms of functionality for browsing pages of content, it seems sufficiently.
personally i would prefer an additional option, which is infinite scrolling method. but to do that, they would need to make the content a separate inline window from the right side panel (which also needs to be scrolled to view the entirety of it).
then if you scroll within the content window, and you reach the very bottom, it would then auto load the next page of results.
Yes clicking the next page is fine. But quite often when you are viewing content for that page, you would view everything, and rather than clicking the next page, you would scroll down and it would load next page instead. It's quite convenient if it had that.
As for skipping many pages, there is only typing the page number for a fast skip. Some UI designs they would have a preset of multiple page numbers e.g.

that said, i'm okay with the current pagination in it's lean form as it's still very usable
