WARNING! Don't upgrade to Qsirch 5.2.0 before you read the Change Log!

Post by Cocoproxy »

I never take the time to post in forums but this really p*sses me off. I use Qsirch for one thing and one thing only. I use it to search old text notes. Simple text. That's it. But the new version of Qsirch will force me to enable Multimedia Console (which I intentionally have disabled) and the new QNAP AI Core (which is 1.98 GB of photo recognition junk that I neither need nor want). These resource-hungry applications provide features that aren't even available to me unless I pay $30/month for Premium, which I will not do. So for now I have turned off auto-updates and will continue to use Qsirch 5.1.3 until it no longer works. At which point, I will move my data to another system, remove my drives, and toss my TS-451+ in the trash.

Change Log
Qsirch 5.2.0
( 2021/09/08 )
[Important Notice]
- After version 5.2.0, users need to install and enable the latest version of Multimedia Console and QNAP AI Core before using Qsirch to get better search feature experiences.

Completely agree with your sentiments. I also installed the upgrade and regret it now. No forewarning that MultiMedia Console would be enabled and activated, or that AI Core would also be installed. QNAP has messed up again. They need to make these functionality add-ons optional, or at least capable of being disabled. Now CPU usage is back to 40-50% utilization for functionality not needed or wanted.

Yeah, my box also went from 5 - 6% Idle CPU to above 30% now after everything stopped indexing/scanning.
So I’m forced to remove Qsirch now (so I can get rid of container station og AI core).

This is a disaster QNAP - get rid of those requirements so we can use our box as intended, or a synology will be my next NAS. This is completely hopeless.

Does anyone know of another indexing app for QNAP?

I haven't tried it myself on NAS
https://github.com/berney/recoll/tree/b-working
but used some time ago on a desktop.

+10 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (for @ of our QNAP's)

If you don't care about the Date-Time-Modified folder attribute being stepped on for your data folders on your QNAP, you can ignore this. However if you, like me, consider the Date-Time-Modified folder attribute as important, sacred as your data contained within it, watch this warning!

I've always been upset that multimedia console can't be uninstalled, just disabled. Qsirch 5.2.0 (convinces me I need to find some way to durably disable/destroy mediaconsole during QTS version upgrades). Suggestions welcome!!!

I got s u c K k e r e d into trying out Qsirch with offer of premium license to end of year. I was totally unimpressed and so so so so wish I uninstalled it after initial testing before 5.2.0 upgrade came along. Just discovered that either AICore upgrade or multimedia console enabling effectively began the destruction of my data. Thank god I only tried this on one QNAP. QSirch 5.2 and/or AIcore Maggot and/or multimedia console has managed to destroy the date modified on many random folders. The destruction is random but totally pervasive such that I'll need to rebuild all shares ~50TB of data on the QNAP I installed Qsirch upon to make my data look like it did before this upgrade.

Well, just had to remove the whole **. I hate the multimedia console and all media station apps with a passion. They are entirely useless to me and consume a lot of performance. Qsirch now requiring them is an absolute no go and so it all had to go. What happened to the idea that you can use the NAS the way you want for the features you want? Does anyone have alternatives? For both, alternative search apps as well as entirely different NAS manufacturer. Money is not an issue.
