CLI documentation? xlogin?

Post by bampfa » Thu Dec 20, 2018 8:59 am

Is there some secret cache of documentation for the CLI somewhere? I have searched high and low and see none.

More specifically is there anyone who knows what xlogin does? Does it allow access to the underlying Linux? I'm trying to set up some specific rsync daemon settings and man it would be great to be able to access the normal Linux stuff.

The password (as noted in another post here) doesn't correspond to the system admin password.

We're running ES164Xdc_20180605-

Thanks for any tips!

There is no underlying Linux in QES, only plain FreeBSD. Taken from one of the corresponding product pages:
"QES operating system which is based on FreeBSD and ZFS".

As for your question I don't know but as there have never been a CLI documentation for QTS, I would be very surprised if there was one for QES. Google for FreeBSD.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

Yes it's secret!
Don't ask me why it's not in the downloads!

Contact Qnap and ask them for "qes-cli-user-manual-1.1.0.pdf"

Thank you @storageman! I will ask for it and hopefully get out of the ** that is the QES CLI.

For anyone else reading this (& P3R), my bad, I meant FreeBSD not Linux. I'm referring to the CLI when you SSH into the QES and get a list of a couple dozen basically useless commands (that seem to replicate the GUI functions, but on the command line):

Code: Select all

background domain home notification security tcpdump
bonjour enclosure hostlist ntpd servicebind tftpd
buzzer espkg ifcfg ping share timezone
cache exit ifgrp pool snapshot ups
cf fio iperf3 power snapsync user
cfsetup ftpd iscsi proxy snapsyncd utilization
cifs fwupdate lun qenc snmp ver
clear global model qservice sshd vlan
clone group monitor_log recycle sysadm xlogin
diagnostic help net rsyncd syslog zil
disk history nfs rsyncjob target
I can *see* that there is a UNIX back end by doing a remote rsync to pull down, for example, the contents of /etc/, which shows me pretty standard-looking UNIX files:

Code: Select all

rsync -r QESadminUser@ ./
My hope is that I can use normal UNIX rsyncd configuration to accomplish my goals. "XLOGIN" appears to be the way out of this restricted CLI, but there's no indication of how to find or reset the password.
