Updating Ts-412 from 3.7.3 to 4.3.3

Post by fotski »

Hi all,
Just decided its about time to update the firmware on my NAS.
I'm currently running 3.7.3 on a TS-412.
A few questions.
1 - Should I update straight to the latest?
2 - If not, what is the best course of action? I read somewhere that I need to wipe my NAS and rebuild for version 4.x onwards? Is that really necessary? What is the impact if I don't?
3 - How do I access firmware thats older than 4.2.0 build 0130 (the oldest I can find on the QNAP site)?

Cheers,
Fotski

The update should be possible. A conversion (backup, wipe, rebuild, restore data from backup) is not required, as this NAS generation does not get the flexible storage management anyway.

Thanks Shumaku for the quick reply.

I had also raised the question with support and they replied with pretty much the same advice.

For the record and for anyone who may be searching for this down the line, here's what i did.
- backed up everything onto external devices
- rebooted NAS before the update to clear up memory
- started up QFinder Pro and via this
- Updated from 3.7.3 to 4.2.0 build 0130
Be aware the first update took a while to come back from the reboot with green light with flashing red - I'd say 5-8mins.
- Updated from 4.2.0 build 0130 > v4.3.3.0229 build 20170624
All came up fine.

Cheers,
