I did search youtube for combinations of the words eevblog, bigclive, qnap, mosfet, backplane etc, but could not find what I hoped to find.
If you have a link, please?

Thanks, but there may be a misunderstanding between us (?) None of those videos shows how to identify and replace a defective mosfet on a HDD backplane.
Maybe such a video doesn't exist?

Dear dolbyman

Yes I know but I want more return about this subject. The 1253BU is very expensive and I want to take the best decision.
I know thaht you have a 853BU and it work like a charm. I already want other person with a J3455 to have more return.

Thx.

You have confirmation that the silicon in Apolla lake is NOT suffering from this issue ... there is not more confirmation than this

Also you got info that the device you are looking to buy is not current anymore and will go out of support (software/parts) sooner than an actual current model

The booting problem is due to a default in the Intel integrated circuit, more precisely in the clock part.
There is no way to replace the faulty Mosfet.
The "resistor fix" is a turnaround that generates back the clock signal.
Some people says that if the faulty Mosfet completely die, it could be possible to have a more complex fix by installing a clock generator (25MHz if my memory is correct) and inject this frequency (solder the clock signal wire) to the correct pin of the Intel chip.
But as far as I know, nobody has implemented this solution to date: perhaps because the "resistor fix" is still operational on the "repaired" devices, or because it is a bit more complex, or because the persons owning a faulty Nas have preferred to buy a new model (?).
But anyway it is an interesting solution, probably not so difficult to implement for a person with a bit of soldering skills...
