Direct login to a VM from windows PC on LAN

Post by rockgeo »

Query from a novice owner of a new TS-451+. Is it possible to set it up such that I can login directly to a VM from a windows 11 PC?

System details:
QTS 5.0.0.1891
Network Setup Single Port
No Port Trunking
Both physical adaptors connected to my router.
Virtual switch created connecting VMs (Fedora and MSEdge_Win10) to Adapter 2

I can’t quite see how to configure to login directly to e.g. fedora from the PC via Adapter 2 IP address. I suspect I need to set up a VPN of some sort, but not quite sure as by no means an expert. I do not need or want to access remotely via the internet, only from within my private home network. Any guidance gratefully received.

Unclear why you would want/ask about a VPN .. everything is happening in your private LAN .. no need for any VPN tunnels.

What kind of "login" are we talking about ? VNC/ SSH/ ?

I think I meant VNC, not VPN, judging by some other posts I’ve just found. But can’t find clear (for the inexperienced novice) instructions for enabling this. What (free) VNC client is recommended for the windows side and what are the setup steps on both the NAS and windows side.

Ahh … sorry I should have stated that I’m on windows home on my desktop PC. I have successfully used AnyDesk to login in to my laptop, also windows home, so I know a third party remote connection tool works between windows home machines at least.
