Re: [HOW TO] Recover no beep / dead Intel based Qnap x53/x51 (2014~2016?)
We have gone with a TS-453D as a replacement, powered it up let it upgrade the firmware and I swapped the hard drives from the faulty unit and pretty surprised it went well for us. As dolbyman has linked just check the compatibility and follow the instructions. There are a few users doing YouTube clips showing on other models.
Its intel so 100%, things that might affect it are probably going to be the environment.mgk2010 wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 12:53 am Hi,
My unit TS451+ went down over the weekend, just shy of the 6 yr mark,
I am not sure if I can understand or am equipped to follow the suggestions mentioned to fix this. I do have back up of the critical data offline.
However, Is there a way for me to use the current discs as-is on a replacement qnap NAS. If so, could someone please point to the procedure for doing this ?
Thanks

Hi all - amazing info here so maybe it can help me out.
My TS-451 recently had the dreaded red HD lights.
LAN not connected but light solid blue.
No green status light (altho it flashes when powering down).
The unit does not beep at start up or at 2 min mark (or at all).
My father was an electronic wireman so I picked up some soldering skills.
I soldered a 100ohm resister to pin 1 & 10 - no change
I then tried 1 & 8 - no change
I then tried 1 & 6 - no change
I finally tried 1 & 3 - still no change
Is it over for me lol??
I didnt want to buy another NAs but may have to buy a compatible one.
Appreciate any advice.
Khurram

How strict is the adherence to a 100ohm resistor? Lowest I've got sitting around is a 220ohm from an Arduino kit I fiddled around with a couple years back. Got a failing 453mini I want to give this a try with.

This is a good sign, right?DirtyMetis wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 10:16 pm How strict is the adherence to a 100ohm resistor? Lowest I've got sitting around is a 220ohm from an Arduino kit I fiddled around with a couple years back. Got a failing 453mini I want to give this a try with.

For a second I wondered what that adruino is doing there .. but then realized that the breadboard next to it was used for the resistor
Check if Qfinder can find the NAS and/or if it boots into setup, if so it should work (it could find the USB connected DOM)

I too have 453Mini with this problem. Did you manage to locate the exact position on the PCB? Can you post a picture?

Used this as my main reference. Gonna dust off the soldering iron later tonight - best of luck!

[HOW TO] Resistor fix on my TS-453 Mini
Hey all,
My NAS has died... Like many have here as well, after reading extensively. I think I'm in the same boat as the one's that get it up and working again with a resistor fix. However I can't find a topic that states the TS-453 Mini and what pins to solder the resistors to. I went ahead and bought a ** of resistors, dusted off my soldering iron and really want to try to fix this myself but can someone help me on the way what position on the motherboard to look for on the Mini?
Thanks a lot

Khurram, did you use a multimeter to measure the voltage across the pins first? Others in this thread have noted that you may need to change the resistance (most people have gone up). I just fixed my TS-451 today. Before the 100 ohm went in, I turned the unit on and the voltage measured across pins 1-8 was 2.2V. After installing the 100 ohm resistor, the voltage was reduced to about 1.65V.Perplexed2 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 1:55 am Hi all - amazing info here so maybe it can help me out.

Depending on what your starting voltage is, you may need to adjust your resistance. Others in this thread have failed to fix their units with 100 ohm but were successful when moving up. Measuring the voltage can really help you determine if you're on the right track. Your target is 1.7V per the first post in this thread.
You can use Ohm's law (V=IR) based on my data point if you want to try to calculate your target resistance, but I suspect you only need to get in the right ballpark and trial and error at this point doesn't seem to hurt anything.

When I was stuck in the dead state, my TS-451 would get this far and get stuck. After the resistor fix, the operating system booted.DirtyMetis wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 1:22 amThis is a good sign, right?DirtyMetis wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 10:16 pm How strict is the adherence to a 100ohm resistor? As an aside, if you have two 220ohm resistors, you can install them in parallel to make a 110ohm resistor. Of course, the challenge would be installing two resistors in a tight space. I used dupont wires so it would have been very easy for me to do if I had to.
