[HOW TO] Recover no beep / dead Intel based Qnap x53/x51 (2014~2016?)

Hi,
any suggestions if i have following situation?
TS-253B
Status LED blinks red...
LC LK - GND = 0.618V
3.3V - GND = 0.107V
I have tried 64R,100R and 150R with no success.
Seems to me like a problem with 3.3V line.
Battery has 3.1V
Any ideas please?

Has anyone tried the fix on the HS-251? I have located the pins on the Fintek F71869 but they are way to small to solder wire on without sorting with the pins that are next to them.. Could JP3 be related with them somehow ?

Thank you dolbyman! I measured 2.4 Volts on LPC_CLK so the resistor had to be connected to GND.
I used third pin from JP3 for GND and for LPC_CLK, since I couldn't find the signal anywhere else, I took the hard path and soldered a wire to pin 38 of the Fintek.
Connecting a wire on a such a small pin so close to the others was a NIGHTMARE for me. At some point I had all pins next to it shorted with solder. Finally I managed to remove the extra solder and the short circuit and connect the wire just to pin 38
In the end I found it easier to make the connection with the QNAP on and the other end of the wire connected to the oscilloscope so I can see at all times if the wire is at the right spot and not touching pins 37&39. It might be risky to solder with the device on but it was much easier this way. 150Ohm resistor was used to bring the avg LPC_Clock voltage close to 1.7 Volts

I don't think it is reliable or expect it to last but the HS-251 is alive and kicking again!

hi all,

I am having the same issue with the Qnap TS-251.all red lights at the boot and nothing happens.

tried the workaround, anything between 80 to 110Ohm seems to be changing the behavior and the voltage on the LPC pin goes down to 1.3 to 1.5 volts (Depending on the resistance).
above 110 ohm, it goes back to all lights going red. (have not tried below 80 ohms yet)
however the unit still does not boot.

here is what i am getting
1. remove battery and drain bios (hold reset button)
2. put back the battery, and connect HDMI, network cable. with Fan plugged in and HD controller plugged in
3. plug in the power cable.
4. Status light goes green. nothing happens.
5. push Power button, fan starts spinning, all lights flash once (no bip) then all lights stay dark except the flashing yellow network light.
i left it running this way for several hours. nothing happens
at this point the there is an 82 Ohm resistor connected between pin 1 and Pin 8 on the LPC connector and running voltage is 1.37 Volts.
other ping show 3.3V.

any ideas please? should i try lowering the voltage even further?

Guys, an update... i seem to have misplaced the DIMM module into a secondary slot instead of the primary (while doing initial troubleshooting)... so not having any DIMM in the primary slot caused the issue.
so switch to the other slot and the system is booting up now!
i thank you very much for this thread. hopefully will be able to migrate some data off the unit to the newly purchased Synology (sorry, i cannot trust Qnap after such an issue)

Oh, I must have missed this part... i hope the same is not applicable to the new units...
and once again, thank you very much dolbyman for your continues support on this issue. Even though i do have external backups of the critical data from the QNAP, it is always more comfortable to be able to migrate properly....

Another successful recovery of a TS-453 Pro. Same 100 ohm from pin 1 to pin 8. Everything seems to work fine.
Does anyone know how long this fix works for? Or will my QNAP die after a few days?
Attached picture shows (ugly first) mount of the 100 ohm resistor. After confirming the fix I cleaned up the soldering

I did this quick fix a year ago and the 251+ is working fine. I bought a 253D instead and gave the 251 to a friend that wants to test NAS life. Of course I warned him when he asked why i just gave it to him.
But, has anyone here experienced the final breakdown? (Yes, I did a search but couldn't use meaningful search terms.)
Does it erase the data on the disks, or does it just cease working and if I insert the disks in a new compatible NAS everything would be OK?

Does anyone know a permanent fix for this issue other than replacing CPU? As per Intel's errata, a platform level change was suggested as a workaround.

Have anyone dealt with this issue via QNAP warranty and can share what QNAP did?
