For most people this issue comes up AFTER the warranty if over. (QNAP will probably just swap the NAS to a new version or a new model, they will not work on the PCB of such a 'cheap' NAS)

On my TS-453 Pro, I tried 100 ohm 1/8 W resistor between 1 & 10 and 1 &8 but it both combo didn't work.
Does the resistor wattage matter? I didn't think so.

no, dissipation should be very miniscule..so wattage shouldn't matter

Ok, I could able to recover my NAS by adding 100 ohm resistor between 1 and 8. Hope it will run until I finish backup.
Looking at the event history, NAS had went down with message "System fan 1 failed"
Many Thanks to @yujungchang for his workaround to this issue/bug.

Thank you all and to MBatNAK for the image - the 100ohm resistor went nicely into an existing hole in the connector and soldering took a few seconds.MBatNAK wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 11:42 pm Thanks toand all who contributed to the solution.yujungchang
Yesterday I finally got the time and managed to recover my TS-453mini.
Unfortunately I was somehow lazy and didn't read the latest updates. But finally I came to the same solution like.fredf
It want help me, but did anyone know what type of connector it is?
For those with a 453mini - the top of the case comes off y removing 4 'rubber' disks next to the magnet circles and under there are 4 screws - this took me the longest to find.
Qnap back to life for now and waiting new NAS to migrate to but at least data all ok. Rebooted with no issues - would never think it had been down.
Thanks to all again

TS451 here, solder 100ohm fix the issue, at least for a period of time, thanks so much for the solution
next question is, if I would like to purchase a new qnap nas, which model does not have this bug? Is it just pull the harddrive and insert into the new NAS then everything will be ok?
Thanks

Re: [HOW TO] Recover no beep / dead Intel based Qnap x53/x51 (2014~2016?)
I have recovered my TS-251+ succesfully with the 100Ohm resistor Mod, but before I replace it with a TS-253D, can anyone confirm if the silvermont/Atom C2000 LPC issue has also been reported on that unit's 2019+ Celeron J4125? I haven't managed to find anything.
I believe the originally affected CPUs are:
- Bay Trail Celeron: J1900,N2807,N2930,
- Apollo Lake Celeron: N3350, J3355, J3455 - but I understand all were subsequently retracted by intel
Therefore can anyone confirm my understanding that:
-all Gemini Lake Celerons, or 2019+ including J4125 or
-all Elkhart Lake Celerons 2021+ including J6412
are unaffected by this issue, even if they are TS-X53Y models?
Once bitten twice shy and all that...
Thanks in advance!

That issue is not present on these processors, but that doesn't mean there is no other/similar issue creeping up in a couple of years..you never know (see the sudden death of the x72 product range)

For anyone with a TS-453mini:
There is an alternative soldering position for the 100 Ohm resistor. Soldering the resistor to a leg on the Fintek chip as described by Pesca65 is just painful.
Alternative Positions are DEBUGCN1 Pin 2 and JP3 Pin 3.
Credits for the soldering positions and photos go to kevin who posted these informations on https://www.evercute.com/techblog/?p=131

Re: [HOW TO] Recover no beep / dead Intel based Qnap x53/x51 (2014~2016?)
Another saved TS-453U-RP.
Symptoms: after turning it on, fans are spinning but it has no video output and network doesn't work however front lights are flashing.
After putting 100 ohm 1/2 W resistor between pins 1 and 10 in LPC connector it booted up but its now asking for installation. I need to check it further but at least its booting up. I didnt use solder, just breadboard jumper wires

Re: [HOW TO] Recover no beep / dead Intel based Qnap x53/x51 (2014~2016?)
Hi Guys, I have a qnap TS-653b with same symptoms. No beep, just blinking red led.
I tried the 100 Ohm between Pin 1 and 8, but no luck. Then measured voltage and got only very low 0,5 volts Then I tried the 100 Ohmt between Ping 6 and 1 but still same silent red fleshing led.
Do you have any hints for me what to try next? Maybe voltage is so low that I need a different type of resistor?
Regards Harry

Huge thank you to everyone in this thread.
I just revived my 2016 TS-251. Will move all relevant data and probably keep it running but mostly for some non-critical containers that I need always on.

So basically this probably happened to me too?
Came home and noticed a loud fan noise and found out that my TS-251(+) is the reason.
Tried to reboot, but nothing. Only status, lan usb and hdd1 leds were on. Status led blinking randomly.
Going to read whole thread, but some one could summarize that there is no perma fix? please?

Bit of an information vacuum in terms of stats. I’ve not read a post from someone saying that their resistor fixed unit has failed. I’d also love some stats on the % of units that have gone down. It may or may not be an eventual outcome.
