Im just adding this info for people who notice that the fix doesnt work. Dont ask my how I figured this out, but about a year ago my nas failed this way. The resistor fix, fixed it, almost ran perfect for a year, but then, some day, it wouldnt boot from standby anymore... Many hours troubleshooting later, and getting it back to work, i did notice it would act up more and more...

My tip now is, which gives me success, but already bought another one btw and put my dives in it, but I still kept troubleshooting it, before throwing it away (or keep it), and this is to use a hairdryer and warm up the CPU. I blow warm air on the back of the motherboard and on the CPU cooling for about 30 seconds each side, then its boots perfect. If I let it cool down again... it will give me the blue USB and red lights, even with the resistor fix soldered.

This might help people get it back running and backup their data... If you got success with this, let me know :) Im curious. As long as its running, there is no issue, it can run for a week no problem, until I put it in standby, go to bed, next day... wont boot anymore, heat it up, works again :)

Had my 453B fail quite some time ago and now my 653B has also just failed. Given it’s probably close to 6 years old I’ve decided to not bother repairing and have a TS-653D arriving tomorrow. Hopefully just a case of transferring the disks over and good to go.

I have a TS-251 8Gb Ram (Kingston)
(5.0.1.2248 build 20221215)
Purhaced 2016
Broke february 4th, 2023
[Hardware status] System fan 1 failed.

Thank you guys for a help.
yujungchang, spile, hurleyp and dolbyman. + many more, sorry that I can't mention all of you.
Here is my fix, feel free to use these pics anyway you need.

I used this diagram to fix my NAS.
hurleyp wrote: Thu Oct 20, 2022 5:09 am The recommended fix is to connect a 100 Ohm resistor between pin 1 (LCLK) and pin 8 (GND). I believe pin 10 isn't used by the system, so using it won't do anything.
diagram5.jpg
I measured
pins 1 and 8 = 3,2V
pins 1 and 6 = 0,6V
Multimeter gave me strange results when measured my 100 ohm resistor, so I'm not so sure about those voltages...

Edit: Problems with uploading pics here.
Too tired to think any other solution...

Hey All;

I have a TS-253B that has dies. Nothing happens when you power it up other than that the "Status" light goes solid red for a few seconds and then starts blinking. I have measured the voltages and see the following:
LCLK (pin-1) & GND (pin-8): 0.48V
+3V3 (pin-6) & GND (pin-8): 0.127V

I tried putting a 100 ohm resistor between pins 1&8...Nothing changed. Then tried between pins 1&6...Nothing changed.

Thoughts?

HUGE Thank you to @yujungchang - the 100 ohm resister on the LPC port, between pins 1 and 10 got things working for me. Now to start considering a replacement NAS that does not have this problem. Since things are working (not sure for how long), I will probably end up getting a NAS with more bays that is compatible with the TS-453 Pro so I can easily port over the drives and have future growth.

Few cents worth for a resistor saved me a few hundred up front and speedy RTO

I started to get this error as well on a TS-253 pro. I sort of ignored it for a while because temperatures were fine. Last night it started to constantly beep. I shut it down and now it's stuck with the message system booting. I assume mine is also dead at this point.

Sad part is that you need this specific hardware to extract the data. I'll try to apply the fix mentioned here.

What NAS do you guys recommend since I need to replace this? I need at least 6 bays. I am sort of fed up with QNAP and ideally do not want to deal with the company anymore.

No need to extract any data..just restore from backups (ALWAYS HAVE BACKUPS)

Also keep in mind that Synology had the exact kind of issue as it was an intel problem

I do have backups for the most mission critical stuff i.e. family pictures but there are some raw video file extensions I believe backup did not grab. I want to do a raw folder copy.

I'll do the resistor fix, when I search for 100ohm resistors in Amazon there are 0.5watt and 0.25watt ones. Does it matter which one I grab?

Thank you. Hopefully soldering is not in some tiny space. I have not soldered anything in the last 20 years and I was never good at it in the first place.

if you have a header..you can use solderless dupont wires..see here

I don't believe I have a header on my board. I assume it's the thing labeled LPC-CN1 right next to COM1.I probably should take the whole motherboard off as there is a chassis rail right above it.
