I have some very sad news to share. Patrick Wilson passed away this past weekend.
I wasn't sure if I was going to share it here or not, but as I've seen people ask him questions, I thought I better share this sad news.
Patrick was one of the most amazing members of this forum, dedicating a lot of his own spare time on helping the QNAP community and although it's a long time since I left QNAP, I think he deserves to be acknowledged as a core part of this community. The world will be a slightly worse place without him and his helpful advice.

That is such very, very, sad news. As well as being such a terrible loss to our entire community (I have many of his invaluable technical posts bookmarked for my future learning), I will personally greatly miss our light hearted exchanges when bantering about such off-topic things as the definition of drams and gills, Scottish vs Canadian interpretations of life, the universe and everything, and even - albeit very occasionally - our more serious discussions about technical stuff (from which I always learned something fabulously cool). Rest in peace dear Patrick; you will be hugely missed by a great many people and massively missed by myself.

I am still relatively new to this community but, since I joined, I had the privilege to be supported by Patrick on many topics. I have really appreciated his relentless support to the community and my thoughts now are are also to his beloved family.
R.I.P. Patrick

R.I.P. Patrick, you will be missed for both your skill and your whit.
A true human being, selfless, devoted and always willing to help. I'm sure we'll meet again up above, I just hope Heaven is built on a Linux foundation.

doubt there will be anyone to fill his deep s-h-o-e-s anytime soon. just see how many posts he made.....
You could add all the post counts from the regulars and still not come close. so it's no exaggeration to say his role here is irreplaceable

I am surprised by the small number of reactions in this topic, regarding Patrick Wilson. Most people took his help for grant, i assume

Really sad news - can't imagine coming to this forum and not seeing a dozen posts from Patrick helping people. Condolences to his family. He was a genuine guy who will be missed by many.
