insufficient ramdisk space

Post by Timidfriendly »

Hi all,

I've had ramdisk issues. I have spend hours going through all the posts I can find on the subject trying to issolate the issue and distill a solution.

Code: Select all

The system is unable to save your settings (file = [/etc/storage.conf], section = [VOLUME 1], field = [status], value = [0]) due to insufficient ramdisk space. If restarting the server does not solve the problem please contact support for further assistance.
In the end I have, rebooted, turned off all the active apps from app center and executed de

Code: Select all

df
command to show following results:-

Code: Select all

Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/ramdisk 139.5M 129.5M 10.0M 93% /
tmpfs 64.0M 284.0k 63.7M 0% /tmp
tmpfs 494.4M 28.0k 494.4M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda4 371.0M 243.0M 128.0M 66% /mnt/ext
/dev/md9 509.5M 115.5M 394.0M 23% /mnt/HDA_ROOT
/dev/md1 922.7G 815.5G 106.7G 88% /share/MD1_DATA
/dev/md0 2.7T 1.3T 1.4T 48% /share/MD0_DATA
tmpfs 1.0M 0 1.0M 0% /mnt/rf/nd
I am now able to access the NAS through the GUI, but i'm concerned about the size of the ramdisk — 93% — seems almost full.
*Is that normal?
*how can I clear it — there must be a command to empty the ramdisk?

I have a TS-459 pro (First itteration: Intel Atom Dual Core 1.66GHz, Memory 1GB DDRII) running QTS v4.2.0 (2015/11/18)

Any help, insights would be greatly appreciated.

No, it still has 7% free space.
Timidfriendly wrote:*Is that normal?
Yes. Answered a hundred times already.

[~] # df
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/ramdisk 139.5M 129.5M 10.0M 93% /
tmpfs 64.0M 468.0k 63.5M 1% /tmp
...

This is a TS-459 Pro II, QTS 4.2.0 20151118.
Timidfriendly wrote:*how can I clear it — there must be a command to empty the ramdisk?
Go for it - remove anything ... and be ready to say good bye to the data on your NAS. No, you are not supposed to remove anything. Healthy NAS operations require the space, and temporary used space is cleaned up normally.

@schumaku

Thank you. Very helpful.

Question: Did you have a bad day? Your response came across as very irritated.
I'd like to remind you that Noobs —like myself— ask these questions because despite our best effort, we realise we are ignorant of the answers and wish to learn from gifted people like yourself.

Graciousness is a choice and a sign of maturity & sowing graciousness brings forth a harvest of thanks and respect.

Just saying ;-)

the sourpuss baby boomer keyboard warriors of schumaku and pwilson is what irritated me most years back when I opted to go with Qnap because of LonTV positive views on the units. Almost as much irritation that i'm having with tmpfs causing failures.

have had mine since 2016 just never bothered registering here. There was a thread posted last week about this issue and many threads going back to 2013 where the tmp was restricted to a measly 32 meg of ram. Later only boosted to 300 megs. Which had many people extremely irritated over qnap's poor support network. This actually is a huge issue now that people started to migrate to container dockers causing issues that can't be remedied or cleared out. Then ya got smart a$$ boomers like the dude above not helping just running people off. Not being sour about it. Just dreading having to lose 16 tb to fix random issues that started to occur. So .. appreciate your advice on a faq. I'm not a millenial or the sour puss generation just the one inbetween, and man I'm frustrated reading all the forum posts seeing other frustrated people.

I'm in the in-between category as well, but I do get annoyed AF (as do others) when people are too lazy to use the search and post questions that have already been answered - multiple times in most cases.
