Qsync won't sync folders where name starts with a dot

Post by Chris777 »

Hi,

I just got my NAS (TS-451+, 4 x 4Tb WD Red, RAID 6) to backup two Windows 7 Pro PCs.

Having trouble with Qsync - it isn't copying folders that begin with a dot (a ".").

So folders with names like:

.metadata
.git
.settings

are not being copied
(there is no green check box on the folder icon, the folders do not appear
in the file browser of the NAS, and the size of the copied folders on the NAS
is about half the size on the PC hardrive, which is roughly the size of the dot folders)

I tried deleting some policy filters ( *.~*, ~*.*) but it didn't fix the problem
(and they don't actually look like matches to me, but thought I'd try anyway)

What do I need to do to get Qsync to copy these folders?

Thanks

Chris

I'm interested in a solution, too.
I think there is a problem with the qsync client, because it works with mapped network drives.

Hi Rivanni,

I have no problem with mapped drives and dotted files (.anything) in Windows.
I can copy these files with Windows explorer (Win7 and Win10).

Only Qsync won't copy these files. If I remove the filter ( *.~*, ~*.* as in the previous post from Chriss777) the file has a blue dot and will never turns green.

Was there ever a resolution to this?

I use OwnCloud to sync with my doc folders on my QNAP which was all going swimmingly until I upgraded to QNAP 4.3.3.0154 this evening, at which point the OwnCloud sync agent running on Windows can't create a number of files that start '._' which it needs to track file sync activities.

I wish I hadn't upgraded now!

This solution worked for me
viewtopic.php?f=151&t=130884

Firmware 4.3.3 is a joke, it broke way too many things and I can't believe they released it

After the firmware fixed this, anyone have issues with deleting files with leading '.' ?

It's strange. I have backup software on the server that does a full backup Friday's. After the full backup the software deletes a previous one (keep 4 full). During the deletion it errors on every file that starts with a ".".

Yet the files are actually deleted when I look.
