Hi, I have the same issue, could you upload some picture how to solder the resistor.

Thanks!!!

Amazing- the 100 Ohm resistor tip worked for me as well - it's up and running again.

Thank you.

So my TS-453 PRO just died.
It alerted with a Failed FAN 1 error.
I powered it off to check the fans, and it didn't come back, SYSTEM BOOTING, I didn't even get output on the HDMI.

I put in a 100 Ohm resistor (pin 1 to pin 10) on the LPC connector and it boots perfectly.

All up and running again.

My TS-251 failed as well. Same error - Failed fan. Did the 100 ohm resistor fix and booted right up. Thanks so much!

Same here with my TS-453 Pro! I put in a 100 Ohm resistor (pin 1 to pin 10) on the LPC connector as well and it boots again. But it still displays "SYSTEM BOOTING >>>>>>>>...." and the cpu temp and fan speed values are still nok. Does anybody from you have the same behaviour?

Nevertheless it is pritty cool, that the system boots again with the "easy" fix. Thanks a lot @yujungchang

Hi,

I'm a part of the familly now, my QTS-453 doesn't want to boot anymore (Stuck on SYSTEM BOOTING).

I'm ready to do the trick with the resistor 100 Ohm but I'm not sure where I'm must connect the other side.

Is it possible to have others pictures ?

Thanks

I've managed to fix SS-453 pro with the same trick.
Big kudos @yujungchang, you're a BOSS !

Thanks!

My 2015 TS-453 Pro just died in the same way. Got an email saying the system fan had failed. I went to check and the fan was running but the NAS was stuck on the SYSTEM BOOTING chevrons and no beeps at all on reboot.
I scoped the pin1 LPC clk and as expected it had a low of ~1.7v and high of ~2.8v. After the 100 Ohm pull down resister it had a low of ~1v and high of ~1.8v. Wasnt sure it was going to work with such a limited range but it managed to boot. The screen is still showing the booting message tho so clearly all is not well, but I can access my files and start transfering things over to a newer box (TS-453D) and this can become my backup for as long as it lasts.

Thanks yujungchang, without your input it would be another TS-453Pro for the rubbish pile.

It would be good to get an idea of how long this patch may work for. I guess this isnt the only bit of silicon failing and the pull down isnt going to make it any better, so eventually the processor will be dead. Not really QNAPs fault but it would be nice if they would offer some kind of replacement at cost less than a new box, to stop all these boxes from being trashed.

I think yours is worse than mine (my high is still around 3.3V), but glad it works out ok. Once you are done backing up your data and if you have some time, maybe you can try different resistor values around 100 Ohm and share your result, screen captures for people having the same symptom.

TS-453 Pro here, same problem yesterday, only system rebooting on LCD, no hdmi.
I had a fault message last week saying that the system shut down because the CPU temperature was > 60- degrees, which seems very unlikely. FW update a few days earlier.
1. Pulled the 4 HDD's & re-powered: same result -> only system rebooting on LCD, no hdmi, also no BEEP after start up
2. Measured DC voltage between pin 1 and pin 10 of the LPC clk -> 2,4 volt
3. Soldered the 100 ohm resistor between pin 1 and pin 10 of the LPC clk connector & re-powered: same result > only system rebooting on LCD, no hdmi, also no BEEP after start up
4. Left the unit unpowered overnight (11 hours) & re-powered: systeem booted + BEEP after start up + correct messages on LCD, I did not try the HDMI
5. Re-installed the 4 HDD& re-powered: systeem booted and is up and running again

Checked all logs and found a lot of fault messages, including the system fan 1 fail, which did not fail but is spinning.
So I am ok now.

Big kudos @yujungchang

I came across this thread as my TS-651 rebooted in the middle of the night (beep/loud fans woke me up) and it won't post. Any ideas if this board is also affected in a similar way? The main marking on the board is QW37 Rev 1.7

My LPC_CN1 has a pin header soldered in already on the TS-651

Ok, did it for mz TS+853 PRO
20201109_084144.jpg
1. remove 6 screws from the back
2. remove the cover
3. find the LPC_CN1 on the board and identify pin no1 (I measured 2,4V)
20201109_112821.jpg
4. solder a 100Ohm to it (I did it on the back since it was easier to access) and connect the opposite to the ground screw.

Now everything work as before!!!!

After the start I looked to the error messages and this is what I found just before the failure:

Severity Level Date Time Users Source IP Application Category Content
Error 2020/11/07 23:05:20 System 127.0.0.1 Hardware Status Fans [Hardware Status] System fan 2 failed.
Error 2020/11/07 23:04:45 System 127.0.0.1 Hardware Status Fans [Hardware Status] System fan 1 failed.

Fans are O.K.

you are my hero! I've checked this topic after long time, 2min finding proper resistor, 1min soldering - it works!

I've tried reflashing bios, dom everything.... and this one resistor solved the issue! thaaaank you!

this also works very well with TS-251 !
i could revive it with that 100 Ohms soldered between pin 1 and pin 8

NAS booted properly, FAN RPM and Temperature OK. Disk in Bay 2 online !

Many thanks !! you are a hero !

Thanks for the offering! Although it's less likely I'll ever go to Switzerland, but who knows? Glad you can fix it and also to remind you that it isn't really a fix, but just a way to extend its life and the CPU will be degraded further as time goes by. So turn it off when not using it should extend a bit more and happy holiday!
