Qnap is doing live presentation over youtube introducing a couple of things. TS-x77 series, something about arm, and 4.3.4 firmware.

For anyone who missed the x77 video live stream and what it talked about, there were 2 parts, hardware and software.

Part1

- x77 comes with clip on heatsinks for 2 x m.2 ssds

- 1050ti Nvidia works on x77 (they even mentioned 1060, 1070 and 1080 would as well. What was not mentioned was whether any of the newer AMD vega gpus would though)

- you need to select between 2 mode usage for the graphics card installed. Either
(a) virtualization or
(b)hardware transcoding/hdstation/linuxstation

*basically you can't use both at the same time for the graphics card.

Part2

on software side they talked something about the fish eye view for video cams.
Mobile apps

Also some other stuff

*watching back regarding the m.2 heatsink clips, they mentioned it being only for 2280/2260.

Give them a little slack, they aren't professional broadcasters.

New boxes look pretty nice though. I like the new improved cooling designs and m.2 SSD heatsinks.

yeah it's nice they also include those m.2 heatsinks as well. in video they look quite hefty

why does this unit not have a tvs designation though. Sure it doesn't have the lock bays (i like them but if it's added cost i could live without them). But still the performance is quite good. Only feature missing is thunderbolt.

My guess would be due to lack of embedded video on the Ryzen chips.

true, thats one of the few downside. it doesn't right of the bat have graphics. but that saud isn't installing like an amd or nvidia superior anyway?

some people that don't really use the gpu may rather have the cheaper igpu like in those intels if only just for HW/a plex. nvenc should be superior but thats assuming the app has hw/a for that though but this type of powerful cpu will be using software x264 anyway, so hm

Your 2nd video really is more applicable to SAN based snapshots (or somewhat iSCSI) for storage tied to application servers (SQL, Exchange, etc.) where you have the risk of the OS/App caching writes in memory prior to destaging to the disk. Doesn't really apply to majority of QNAP home/smb users.
