How to recover lost folder on factory reset?

Post by TkNeo »

My TS-251 had gotten messed up. The 3 second reset was not working. I could not connect. Tried everything (reboot device, router etc)

I followed the following steps and got a notification on my NAS IP address webpage to do a factory reset. It said it will not delete any data. I did that and now I can connect to my NAS and I see the home, homes, Public, Web folders and they have all the data. However, previously, I had another folder I had created (at root level) called Multimedia. I can't find that folder through the File Station. It had a ton of movies, music etc that i collected over the years. Please help!

  1. Turn off your NAS
  2. Eject all 4 drives. (Don't remove them, just eject them by 1"/3cm so they are no longer connected to the SATA Bus).
  3. Turn on the NAS. (You'll hear a short "beep")
  4. After 2-3 minutes, a long beep will be heard, and the NAS can be seen in QNAP Finder
  5. Hot-plug all HDDs into the NAS (Do not power off the NAS. Do not follow the quick setup)

How to retain files and restore the default shared folder paths after restoring a QNAP NAS to factory settings
https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/faq/arti ... -settings/

assuming it didn't format/ delete your data, you can try re-adding the same share name as before.

if that doesn't work, then you needed a backup in this scenario :/ never skimp on backup.

YES THAT"S IT.
Go to File station and CHOOSE: Create a shared folder, next to the name of your NAS.
Give the folder a name and then CHOOSE @path: enter path manually
Then you can browse through all paths and you will find your lost folders, select the one you want to recover and click create.
Once created you will find in a little while your folders and files back, if not formatted of course.

While I find the folders - it says cannot create folder, make sure you have free space on the server?
Any help
